Title: At what temperature do the fans turn on?
Post by Dutchscorpio on Jul 15th, 2008, 5:21pm
Hi everybody. I am Job from The Netherlands and I drive a 95 saloon Glx 5sp, that my father bought new in 01-95. It's nice to know the car's history. It has 330.000 kms on the odometer. It's running perfect on LPG, Vialle gasinjection.

After a hot summer in Italy with high coolant temps, I decided to change the radiator. I bought a new one and also replaced the thermostat. I wonder when the fans come on when idling for a long time. After the new radiator, the tempgauge stays in the middle, but when I use the odometer button to check it digitally, the numbers keep on dropping, so temp keeps on rising. Now, when I turn on the AC, fans start turning on slow speed and the numbers for the coolant temp start rising again. SO the fans work, but when I would not switch on the AC, at what point do the fans come on thereselves? Anyone an idea?

Thanks in advance and I would like to say this seems a perfect site!

Best regards, Job

I think from memory that the digital number displayed on the dash would be about 120 or there abouts ( on my 12v) but others might know more . I have never seen a diffinative number anywhere but I may well have missed it .

Dutchscorpio.
This will be of little use to you,but in England my fans never start without Aircon, because the old lumps never get hot enough ie the gauges seldom go much over halfway in any conditions.I hope this bolsters your confidence.

The reading I have from OBD for my 2.3 is:
Fan on at 210F
Off at 202F
(the gauge was still in the middle)
