Hi, just put the 98 scorpio ultima estate "diesel" in for it's first MOT, i expected some problems, so that's ok, my problem is trying to find out exactly what the model etc is, i have the vin number etc is there somewhere on the internet i can put the details in to find out more about this model, the reason i ask is my mechanic is not a Ford main dealer, it needs front suspension coils and some welding done, thanks oh and don't forget i am not a car expert at all ???

Erm, you already have your exact model:-

If you go to your friendly ford dealer, give him your reg no or vin no, he will then be able to put it into his computer and tell you all manner of things....
In fact I think maybe scorpioman or someone on this site may be able to do it too.... ???
Your car sure looks nice., by the way.... ::)

I don't think you have an Ultima there, because from looking at the picture, it doesn't have the 12 spoke Ultima alloys & also it doesn't look as though it has an auto dimming rear view mirror :)

But it does look as though it's got leather interior, so probably a Ghia X :)

It should state the actual model on the rear doors :)

Thanks for the replies, it seems i have a rare engine that was used in boats, as well as in these cars, it does have a scorpio badge/logo in the rear door panels, i get so many conflicting ideas from mates to the garages i just want to be able to say with some certainty it is a blah blah thing me bob :-/

hi there

it's not a ultima. looks like a spec'd up ghia (using ford spec). it's all a bit strange as the leather is factory fitted, but no alloys (195x65x15 steel). ???

the front bumper/bonnet don't match, so i'd say it's not a facelift. it's a 12/1997 build.

Thanks again you lot are just brilliant, i have now got the log book details it say's -make = Scorpio GHIA TD = 01/1998 2500 CC - Estate so not what i thought it was, but it does have climate control ::) also full leather seats, i paid £400 for it and as you can see in another post it had what looked like a major oil leak, turned out to be a minor fix so i am well pleased with it, needs some work now, shocks and a sill welded but it drives like a dream, thanks once more, cheers Mike. ;)

Nice looking car, like the colour too - Cuirass by any chance ? :)
£400 sounds like a bargain, even with some work needed.
Facelift front bumper but pre-facelift grille - so bumper looks to have been replaced at some point. Headlights look different too ?
Leather and climate conretol were probably factory options.
Find yourself a nice set of 12-spoke alloys to really set the looks off a treat.

I reckon it is a facelift thats had the grill and a headlight replaced by some cheapskate ;)

Does it have a centre headrest on the back seat and three rear seatbelts Mike?

How many airbags does it have?? it will tell you on the windscreen vin plate, drivers side bottom corner looking from outside the car

Hi, yes it does and three seat belts as for the windscreen i can not give you those details as it is in the garage, i think it had a front end shunt as the bumper is slightly out of alignment to the rest of the front end, i still can not find out the sort of engine it has, my mechanic is not familiar with it as well ? thanks folks i appreciate this ;)

I'm fairly sure its a facelift then going by the build date, front bumper, headlight and the rear seat spec.

It may be the picture but the nearside headlight appears to be the prefacelift silver insert type whereas the offside looks to have the black insert of the facelift.

Interesting, but the front lights are the same, the photo gives the impression you mention, i think i got it so cheap because i believe the guy that sold it thought it had a major problem with the sump, but it was just the oil cooler pipe that was ruptured, hence all the oil flowing backwards under the car, but as i said before that was a simple fix that even i could work out ::)

So you have a prefacelift grille then :)
Definitley a facelift I'd say.

So you should have the revised TDI VM engine

Thanks, but i am in the New Forest then with the youngest lad, i missed the last one as well, perhaps third time lucky, are these meets on a regular basis, i forgot to mention that the car does have electric front seats as well, drivers only side with a pump up lumber support, apart from an ebay search does any one know where i could get the correct bumper from ? any way have a good weekend folks cheers Mike. ;)

Hi Mike, I'm pretty sure that is the correct bumper you have, I think the part thats not original is the grille, it should look the same as the one in the picture I posted on the previous page

What colour is the car?
Cant actually tell from the picture because of the sun, is it silver?

The colour code will be shown on the vin plate just left of the bonnet catch.
