Title: 4.27 diff Post by shirlz94 on Jul 18th, 2008, 7:01pm :) Hi all, I was wondering if anyone could tell me which year, model etc a 4.27 diff with push in shafts comes from, lots of people have been telling me thats what I need for my stock car but nobody is forthcoming with details! Many thanks Shirlz94 :) |

Title: Re: 4.27 diff Post by Highlander on Jul 18th, 2008, 7:19pm Hello and welcome :) you need one off a 2.0 16v any year, auto or manual, saloon or estate. not the 2.0 8v as it has a 4.09 http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/manual/rearaxle/RAxleSpecs.pdf The data on this sheet for the 2.3 16v is WRONG the 2.3 is fitted with a 3.91 diff |

Title: Re: 4.27 diff Post by Highlander on Jul 18th, 2008, 7:49pm Good luck getting one then, i found the cheapest option is to buy a whole car :) I fitted the 4.27 diff to my 24v replacing the 3.64 stock diff, makes a huge difference, both to performance and petrol consumption!! }{ |

Title: Re: 4.27 diff Post by Highlander on Jul 18th, 2008, 7:58pm I sold one on ebay once for over £100, they guy who collected it said he's seen them go for £300 :o Buy a non runner 2.0 16v for a couple of hundred quid, take the diff and make your money back at the scrappy ;) This one needs £400 worth of rear shocks! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FORD-SCORPIO-ULTIMA-16V-AUTO-GREEN-1995-ESTATE_W0QQitemZ310066843042QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item310066843042&_trksid=p3286.m14.l1318 |

Title: Re: 4.27 diff Post by shirlz94 on Jul 18th, 2008, 8:10pm :) Cheers for all the info, saves me taking off backplates at scrappies (other half does the work for me to race so he reckons I gotta work on it too)! Better get moving work beckons ::) |

Title: Re: 4.27 diff Post by Highlander on Jul 18th, 2008, 8:16pm Talking of backplates... The early models, generally M and N reg had the single mount backplate the same as your Sierra, later models have a double mount backplate, the diffs are identical though and the backplates are interchangeable.. |

Title: Re: 4.27 diff Post by 5stud on Jul 19th, 2008, 12:19am i think you guys are missing the point.DIFF WITH PUSH IN SHAFTS .granadas and scorpios and larger cc sierras use large diff with torex bolt on shafts smaller cc sierras use small diff with PUSH IN SHAFTS |

not getting what you mean 5 stud, the driveshaft pinions on the scorpio push in and are held with a circlip, which is the same setup as the only Sierra i ever dismantled, a 2.0 ghia. The torx bolts hold the driveshafts to the pinions. Whats the Sierra set up? |

Title: Re: 4.27 diff Post by Scorpio_Mike on Jul 19th, 2008, 1:01am May be referring to early type Sierra diff - driveshafts are a single unit complete with the splined ends which push into the diff & hub - not like the later type with the 6 hex / allen key bolts on each end which have separate driveshafts. The push fit driveshafts have - I think - something called 'tripode' joints - later models have CV type joints which I think are called 'lobro' ? I might be well off track here but I think that is what the original question was about ??? |
||
Title: Re: 4.27 diff Post by Highlander on Jul 19th, 2008, 1:05am So the Sierra driveshafts will not fit the Scorpio diff then? |
||
Title: Re: 4.27 diff Post by Scorpio_Mike on Jul 19th, 2008, 10:22am Having now read the original question properly :-[ I would guess that a 4.27 diff with push-fit driveshafts would originally have come from an early Sierra - not sure which engine size though, most likely a 4-cylinder version as the 2.3 V6 had a 3.38 and the 2.8 V6 had a 3.62 I'm pretty sure they stopped using the push-fit driveshafts from late '84 on the Sierra in favour of the Lobro type CV joints. Get hold of a copy of the Haynes manual for the Sierra - a couple of quid from ebay - don't forget there are 2 versions, 1 for the 4-cyl models and 1 for the V6 models. |

Title: Re: 4.27 diff Post by Highlander on Jul 19th, 2008, 12:39pm 7" and 7.5" i think the Sierra used.. the Sierra diff i removed (7" and 3.91 ratio) took 2.3 Scorpio driveshafts ok (something i tried just out of interest) Hang on Shirlz I may have given you duff info :o |

Title: Re: 4.27 diff Post by shirlz94 on Jul 20th, 2008, 4:12pm Hiya, Scorpio Mike your first reply description was right about the driveshafts but supposedly the 4.27 diff was only available in Scorpio or Granadas. All your help is very much appreciated with this. |

Title: Re: 4.27 diff Post by Scorpio_Mike on Jul 20th, 2008, 9:38pm Dug out my Mk3 Granada Haynes manual - no mention of 4.27 diffs in there. Various ratios listed, depending on engine size and spec : 3.92 / 3.62 / 3.36 Hope you get to the bottom of it ! |

Title: Re: 4.27 diff Post by pappa on Jul 23rd, 2008, 10:31am Hi guys! about two years ago I sold a diff from a -93 24V granny to a Sierra guy who had busted his diff with his turbocharged V6 engine. ::) He was happy about it and told me that the driveshafts can be swapped from the Sierra diff into Granny diff. I've done a driveshaft swap from a 2.3 cars diff into a 24v diff, two clips inside the diff are holding the "knuckle" where the driveshafts are torx bolted on. Should be a simple swap operation, but no quarantees on it! |

Title: Re: 4.27 diff Post by Stixy on Jul 23rd, 2008, 3:55pm Only Sierra's with rear disc's had bolt on shafts all others and there are several types and splines were the push in type the 4.27 was never fitted to the Sierra but it was fitted 93> in the Granada |
