Title: 24V water leak.
Post by nice_1 on Aug 1st, 2008, 1:35pm
After just getting the steering rack sorted, the next problem rears its head...I have a water leak looks like it is coming from the pipes that run up through the aircon bracket. I can't see exactly where it is leaking. It looks like the aircon pump has to come off just to get look at it. Does the idler pulley come off with that bracket. or can I just unbolt the idler seperatley??......Not lookin forward to this !!!!! Any advice chaps, thanks.

Just got stuck in unbolting the aircon pump& the bracket. I can now see the hose that dissapears in towards the block. How on earth do you get at that end of the rubber hose ??? engine out ??? Any suggestions.....

I am in the midst of doing exacly the same job - the bottom rad hose according to my local FMD is no longer made, the little short elbow is reasonably easy to do as long as you have the a/c pump off, the bad boy is the one that goes up from the thermostat and passes through the head casting and connects between the V of the engine - you need to remove the plenum chamber and inlet manifolds and then take the fuel rail off, you will then be able to disconnect it - it's not a difficult job just a pain in the rear end really, and of course you then have to source one - that's another matter ::)

I thought exactly the same (see my post http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Advice;action=display;num=1216373627) and was considering scrapping mine, but once I started the job it is simple really, nowhere near as daunting as I first thought and would advise anyone to have a go at it, if it will keep the car on the road.

I actually found one by accident (long story)and it is being shipped to me as we speak (well, type really) you can order them but they won't tell you how long it will take. Mine has been off the road for 2 weeks today.

If you like I will pm you all the part numbers for the hoses and things you'll need to replace all the hoses, then contact fordparts uk (I would advise by phone)and see what they have in and go from there really.

I have got the fuel rails out of the way, I have only taken off the passenger side inlet (hoping I won't have to touch the other one).
I was wondering has anyone else managed to change the hose that runs thru the head. Without removing the ali housing that the hose is fitted to...if you see what I mean. i.e. if I can remove the old one then feed the new one through and get it connected. Be nice to know if someone has done it or just get stuck in an remove it. :-/

Yes that can be done by ramming the hose through it's hole, and working it gradually onto the T piece with some lubricant(not oil). You may find it easier to remove the hose clip until the hose is on,and open it up to refit, there is not much working space. If you can get a willing soul to keep the hose pushed up it would be easier. Not a handy job, typical 24v,but not impossible.
