I need to buy some new tyres for my 2.9 12V Scorpio Estate (what a lovely car!).

I'm only looking for budget tyres as I don't drive fast and don't do a high mileage.

I've found somewhere that sells FULLRUN and ENDURO RUNWAY tyres at a good price....anyone got any good or bad comments about these.....or recommend any others?

I'm a great fan of budget tyres but make sure they are of the correct speed rating or your insurance will be invalid ;)

Nope, if your tyres are of too low a speed rating or not up to the manufacturers specification your insurance is invalid

That is quite correct . If the tyres you fit are not up to the correct speed rating for the car AND you have to make a claim then the Insurance company can if they wish NOT pay out.

Make sure the tyres are at least V rated for the 12 v

i have some fullrun on my last car fiesta never had a problem stuck like poo to a blanket hopes this helps

maybe the fullrun tyres do stick like poo to a blanket but as highlander says if they are not the correct speed rating for the car the poo won,t be on the blanket but will hit the fan(KWIM).

Re. speed rating, the current tyres I have are 92V. Presumably I should get the same again? Can't find much about what speed rating they would have been fitted with originally, thought it would be in the handbook.

I can see that they could refuse a claim based on load rating (as too low a load rating is inviting blowouts).... but in theory even if your tyres are rated at the lowest N rating (87mph) then you should be covered - as to exceed the rated speed is weey in excess of the legal maximum speed limit so you'd have been breaking the law anyway ;D

Sensible head on tho, you should try to match or better the rating of the original specification :) - you dont mention what size of tyre you have fitted ( 205/60/15 ? 225/50/16 ?) but tbh its difficult to find even a budget that has less than a V rating on a 205 profile tyre or greater.

A good example of this is where on the FSOC, we've advised club members running 4x4 sierras of any kind not to fit Avon ZV3 tyres as we've seen countless carcass failures resulting and even avon confirm the tyres are not up the the heavy loading inflicted by the 4x4 cars.

I'd say the same applied to anyone with a 4x4 granny too

OK Speak to your insurance company and ASK them the answer ! As to breaking the law .. You can do that at anytime you wish it all depends as to if you get caught. The tyres MUST be up to the speed rating for the car regardless of the speed limit ... They can be better but NOT under .. Fitting N rated tyres to any scoprio would invalidate full insurance cover if and accident occured regardless of blame .....

We can argue the toss all day over tyres,but what you have to remember is that the last thing insurance companies want to have to do is to actually pay out,they have an encyclopaedia of get outs.

Had Nexens on mine when I bought it, put 10k on them with no problems, were still on when we parted company. Not endorsing them but they were ok and V rated so nothing hit the fan or the blanket while I was driving, always meant to change them but never got around to it :)

Nice symmetrical tread pattern, seemed to grip well in the wet and wear well. Downside was ride over rough roads, for a luxury car my Scorp could've been improved in the ride quality aspect, better tyres would've probably improved this a lot.

Try www.etyres.co.uk, used these people twice now and the prices and service are good, at least with the guy who has the contract around here.

I used to use `cheaper` tyres but was never happy with the road noise. Put 4 new Pirreli`s on the other day (well 3 actually as 1 was already on and was new) so far so good :)

many new cars are now coming out 'type approved' with a certain tyre on, ie Jags have their own 'j' type tyre, Mercedes have a 'm' type tyre. think you will find thats the way it will allg. not heard of any chalenges yet when something has happened, but thats the 'get out' clause.
