Title: This is driving me nuts !! Post by mikeart on Aug 15th, 2008, 4:27pm Hi, hope you can help, my scorpio "98" estate seems to be extra noisy when idling the car runs well and i drive a good few miles each month with no problems, but it is getting louder and people now turn and stare !! if i rev the engine slightly, it goes away, it seems to come from the front of the engine, before i get ripped of by the garage if you folk have any ideas i would be most grateful, i have done a search but not come up with a similar post ;) |

Title: Re: This is driving me nuts !! Post by Jonnycab on Aug 16th, 2008, 2:57am A fellow taxi driver comrade had a 2.5 diesel for a couple of years & he had this kind of noise which turned out to be the timing chain tensioner. He had it fixed, but a year later (about 30K) the noise came back & again a change of timing chain tensioner cured the problem. Then after another 30K it came back again & at this point he sold it ::) He was convinced that the chain tensioner on the diesel only lasts about 30K miles & hence needed replacing regularly :-/ I know nothing about diesel engines, so really can't advise on what it really might be. But this diesel Scorp my mate had, certainly seemed to go through tensioners like it went through tyres :) |
