Title: Cam-shaft position sensor (CMP sensor) Post by Mike_Floutier on Aug 21st, 2008, 10:00am What would you expect to happen if the multiplug to this sensor was unplugged? Would someone mind trying to find out? Reason for asking is that, having removed my cam-shaft cover recently, I failed to reconnect the CMP sensor plug when re-fitting the cover. I discovered this yesterday when fitting new exhaust manifold gaskets as a last attempt to improve the engine running prior to selling the car on Saturday on e-bayhttp://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&item=120289914731 What I realised was that having it connected or not was making no difference to the running of the engine - isthis right OR do you think I have a duff. sensor or wiring? Thanks Mike |

Title: Re: Cam-shaft position sensor (CMP sensor) Post by Mike_Floutier on Aug 21st, 2008, 11:31am Thanks JC, yes I have been getting occasional pinking under the same circumstances as the poor running. Allparts have a sensor for £15 so, having replaced most of the steering, a front wheel bearing, diff, prop-shaft, stabiliser bars front and rear, coil packs, plugs, ht leads, head gasket and a lambda sensor in the pursuit of sorting out this vibration I guess I can't stop now. To Allparts and beyond!!! Mike |

Title: Re: Cam-shaft position sensor (CMP sensor) Post by Mike_Floutier on Aug 21st, 2008, 1:25pm Ok, the CMP sensor is on and the engine at idle has gone from shaking itself senseless to ROCK STEADY! I'm just going to take it for a test drive to see the overall effect. I'm wondering how this will affect the auto-box. I get the impression that because the system was struggling under certain circumstances it wasn't happy with the autobox going into overdrive. We shall see. Mike |
