Title: Rear bumper bolts, Torx? Size?
Post by sgt_pepper on Sep 24th, 2008, 4:55pm
Hi chaps, I have just got a new bumper sprayed, and I want to remove the old bumper, The bolts appear to be Torx, but all of the sets go from T30 straight to T40! I know that the T30 is a bit too small but I wont buy a set because I`m sure the T40 is too big............. Help please?

On the one I use it has ENX 240,the 30 is much too small. You may need to knock it in due to corrosion, then you may need heat to loosen em.It's worth replacing them with hexagon headed bolts.

An angle grinder will probably be more use ;)

Towbar fitting can be fun  :D

Just broke 3 tools trying to get last bolt out, now my t40 has sheared in half, I`m really worried about using an angle grinder so near the petrol tank! Any other ideas?

Seem to recall I actually drilled out as much of the Torx bolt heads as I could and then took the angle grinder to it.
Sounds as though several owners have had to resort to this method without removing the petrol tank.
Have to admit I really didn't give it a thought.

Unless you have a big leak in your tank I dont see a problem with it, done it many times :)

Aim the sparks away from the tank ;)

if you're REALLY worried about it remove the tank or try a drill

sgt-pepper.
Use the outer edge of a little 4" angle grinder so that the sparks go to the sides of the car.As Highlander says there is little danger of a petrol fire, the vapour is what burns, the system is sealed and if there is no strong petrol smell, grind away merrily, sparks directly onto the tank cannot ignite the fuel anyway.
