Title: 24v Rad leaking Post by sad_eyes on Nov 16th, 2008, 8:00pm Hi All Out of the blue my cossie overheated with steam coming from under the bonnet.I was lucky to have water just purchased in the boot.Lifting the bonnet water could be seen coming from the top left hand corner of the rad.Took nearly 4 llitres of water to refill to limp home. Can anyone help with these questions:- Can this rad be repaired? If not what 2nd hand rads would fit?Price of a new one? What course of action would you recommend? Any idea why this happened Car is 1998 24v Cossie 74k Many thanks Dave |

Title: Re: 24v Rad leaking Post by gozz on Nov 16th, 2008, 9:30pm You can get your rad recored at a rad place, not cheap,or there are some people on here breaking Cossies. As you may know, owing to the add on thermostat the 24 valve is prone to balooning of the rad,it is always recommended to examine the thermostat when changing the rad. They are however on back order, and are only available from Ford. There is always a possibility that you have a failed head gasket either before or after the incident. Title: Re: 24v Rad leaking Post by Highlander on Nov 17th, 2008, 10:18am I personally dont think the thermostat is the problem, I think its a production fault with the 24v radiators. Sad_Eyes, is yours leaking out the seal between the plastic side and the cores? Cheap fix is to fit a 16v radiator and header tank, I know of a few who have done this including myself and they run fine, mines done 30,000 miles plus on a 2.3 radiator ;) |

Title: Re: 24v Rad leaking Post by Thunderchild on Nov 17th, 2008, 8:11pm I agree with Highlander, I have a 16v rad in my cossie courtesy of him. Been running for about 18 months to 2 years without any issue. Got to be the way to go. You will need the header tank from the same car as the cossie has 2 pipes coming into it and there is only 1 from the 16v rad. HTH Tc |

Title: Re: 24v Rad leaking Post by Dave2302 on Dec 8th, 2008, 12:39pm Hi, Just done the Rad conversion to mine, sweet as a nut now. ;D See my post "Cossie Radiator" please check your transmission cooler whilst you got it all in bits. Mine runs lovely now and I would agree with Highlander having seen the 2 rads side by side I reckon the cossie ones are not as strong due to thinner vane structure. Gave mine a good thrash, admitted it's cold up here but it doesn't seeem to run any hotter etc and there are others on here done the conversion and done plenty of miles trouble free. Good luck....
