Fordpartsuk tell me rear saloon coil springs are now discontinued and unavailable

with your stock though Stu, you could start a nice business up there!

It is a sad truth though; and one that pushed me to getting another car, the Scorpio is now almost as difficult to get parts for as my old Corsairs.... it will only get harder too as the years progress. I remember when you could go into fords and get a thermostat for a cosworth on a next day delivery!! try that now. Catalina has shown that getting some of the engine hoses for the 24v new is almost impossible and where dealers have parts they are starting to hang onto them

yep i have a few spare ones :)
Would have liked to stick a couple of new springs on the back though! mine have collapsed i think, still intact but must have weakened, the arches are down over the wheels!

Do Ford still supply rear springs for the estate ?

Are there any alternative suppliers ?

Trevor at Fordparts tells me no one else did a rear spring for the saloon or estate, there are a few companies out there who will make springs though, i'm looking into it just now, maybe we could do a bulk purchase through the site?

Anyone interested?

That's interesting  :)......the fact that they sell saloon HD/towing springs & they are cheaper than standard springs.

When I was looking for a pair of saloon HD/towing springs a while back, I did have a result in the fact that a local motor factor said they had them listed & they were actually cheaper that the standard springs.
But when they tried to order them, they turned out to be an old listing that was no longer kept in stock  :(

Thanks for the info Andy  ;).....I might just give them a ring  :)

It's old post I know, & it's very late (just got in from work  ::))

Thought I'd post that I've just ordered a pair of saloon HD towing springs from the Glasgow company that scorpio_man posted...... http://www.awshop.co.uk/default.aspx

£74.30 for the pair inc VAT & P+P.....lets hope they're gonna be the right ones & hopefully wave good-bye to the feeling of driving a speed boat when the rear is heavily loaded up with bodies & luggage  ;).....I swear the exhaust tail pipe was dragging on the M25 on the way back from Heathrow earlier  ::)

Of curiosity, what should the rear ride height be, let's say measured from the factory jack "points" (and not from the lowest point of the body)? On mine it is 20cm with stock tires 205/65R15. It looks pretty low in the wheelarches.

Hi pete, not sure if you know, but the estate springs are different to the saloon springs  :)

Got my heavy duty saloon springs this morning  :D, so will be fitting them in the near future, when it stops raining  ::)

Fitted the new heavy duty springs today & it's raised the rear by 2 inches, although this may drop a little once they settle down  :)

Hi JC

How does the ride feel, did they go straight in?
(You said at the Kent meet the ends of the springs might not of been the same).

Post by Jonnycab on Apr 2nd, 2009, 9:19pm
Hi dave, the ride feels great & more solid, much like an estate  :)   The springs were a little difficult to get in as they were slightly longer & thicker than the old ones, so I had to compress them slightly, & spin the top mount around a bit to accomodate the extra 2 inches in length of the coil. But they eventually went in & seated very nicely  8)

That's good, handy to know of a supplier, strange they're cheaper than the standard ones they stock.

Yes, very strange....maybe because so few saloons were fitted with HD springs (unless it came with a factory fitted tow bar), then there isn't really a demand for them. Also, being heavy duty, they probably don't sag or break very often, so there is never a need to replace them  :)
