Hi all, seems its the season of heater issues again ::) so thought I would ask a couple as well, on my car, 2.0 Ultima with C.C. there is always air flow to the dash vents regardless of the position of the direction control knob, ie; whether its directed at the screen or the footwell, the flaps do move and air is directed to whichever one is selected but there is always an airflow to the dash vents, just not sure if thats the way its meant to be or not. Also as the weather gets colder the temperature gauge takes longer and longer to reach normal although the heater still supplies nice hot air ok, is this usual or is it a sign of the stat maybe not closing fully any more :-/. The details of how the Climate control works are detailed HERE (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/aircon.htm). My understanding is that the fans are on all the time. Sounds like the 'stat is on its way out.

Yes, handbook says Note: When the centre or side vents are opened, air always flows out of these vents.

I usually set the centre 2 fully towards each other & fully up - gives good ventilation without the draught.

Bikerdon.
Both my four cylinder cars are as you describe,slow to reach temp on the gauge,but good heater output.The six cylinder cars are very different,ie 12 valve engines,they quickly reach a steady reading.The 24v engine is somewhat similar to the four cylinder ones in gauge operation.

hi there

you want to see my Honda civic! the radiator is half the size of the scorpio and it takes twice as long to get the gauge reading up to normal.

such a cool running engine in comparison to the scorpio.

Hi Bikerdon,
My scorp was the same always air getting through the vents no matter what the heater setting.
I dismantled my vents and found that there had been a foam seal around the flap that opens or closes the vent on mine this foam had perished and fell apart. ( cant spel disingated disentergrated) ::) anyway I glued some new foam around the edges and this solved the problem. I did post some pics of this at the time if I can find them I will let you know.

Hi Guys, thanks for the replies with your advice, (will definately be refoaming the centre vents now, thanks cossie_al), also it didnt do the slow to warm up last winter so think I will replace the stat anyway, would you recommend a genuine Ford one, or one from a good motor factors.

I reckon you ought to go for a genuine Ford t-stat for £13....reason being is that there isn't a proper pattern part t-stat for the 2.0/2.3. The motor factor books say there is, but it isn't the right part, it's bigger in diameter than the original ???.....if you do manage to stretch the rubber O ring over it, you'll find that it won't fit in the hole ::)

Recently, my 2.3 was starting to take about 3 miles to warm up & the temp was dropping to about a quarter when on the open road, until I changed the t-stat the other day. Now it only takes about a mile to reach normal temp & stays in the middle all the time & doesn't move.
It's always good for fuel economy as well (& the planet) to replace a dodgy t-stat ;)

Here's a fact ;)....a faulty t-stat that causes an engine to run cold can cause a car to run at up to 2mpg less than it should do :)
