Prime suspect has to be the heater matrix  :'(

You may be lucky and find you have an air-lock or be able to flush it out,

is it climate control? try a reset, your flaps may not be set right but im more inclined to go with Mikes matrix/airlock  theory

cheers lads.. is it as bad as the thread says about sorting the matrix out..its bloody freezing!!!

Actually I think the water in the expansion tank is very low ..would that affect the heat??

Check the matrix in & out pipes when the engine is up to temp.....they should be the same hot temp. If the out is cold or cooler than the in, then it's looking like a matrix problem  :(

It took me 2 days to replace my matrix, with completely numb fingers (it was freezing cold)....reckon I could do it quicker next time though  ;)

Make sure it IS the matrix before you change it ;)

Try the suggested things above first

whats worth trying first?? flushing sounds like a waste of time ..i think the coolants very low as ive  aleak somewhere i know that as water in expansion tank doesnt last as long as it should??

first of all i would top up the expansion tank....

then reset the CC

then check the heater hoses for heat/airlocks

then i would flush it, it does work sometimes

Mate of mine had an Audi some time back ...and got an £1800 bill to fix the air-con  :o

Nice cars I'm sure but wouldn't want one.
Mind you, chap up the road has a very nice original H reg Quattro - now there is an Audi which could sway me  ;)

Sorry Stafford mate, I'm not interested  ;). It's a horrible job to do, especially in winter & I don't really relish the thought of having to do it again. But I probably will have to at some point on the wifes 2.3, if or when the heating packs up  ::)

Have a word with Freddieboy, his local garage (Southend area) did it for about £300 all in, which is a good price  :)

It might be an idea to ask Steve Saville if he can help when you're down there. He's taken so many Scorpios apart, he could probably do it with his eyes shut & one hand tied behind his back  ;D

Right...

Its taken at least 2 litres of water and a litre of pre mixed antifreeze and let the temp of engine get up for 30 mins..without holding my breath ive had 2 mins of hot air again before i had to jump into work..

I squeezed some of the visible rubber pipes as well

Does this mean it was just fluid s far too low and the matrix is ok now??

lol yes I would think so, 3 litres short??

does yours not have the coolant level indicator?

I hope it hasnt been overheating the engine..

Next problem is to worry about where the coolants going....

very true Stuart...

I dont like the look of the expansion tank cap..thats a quick sort out but cant see where the coolant s leaking the engine temp has been bang on the 3 oclock position for yrs ..Ive got to do london in the morning hope the heaters still ok but yes was in need of 3 litres of fluid it was..

why did the heat go then because the water was low??

hi there

i'd give everything to do with the engine cooling system a really good look over.

my car's temp sat bang on the middle of the gauge even AFTER the head went! :o :(

have you used any radiator/leak fixes? this can block the matrix AND the radiator.

hopefully yours isn't as bad as mine was. :-/

I've done the same in a 2.3 I bought for spares, I knew the head gasket was going (It was actually the head that had cracked) and was topping it up regularly while driving but eventually it got worse, lost all the water and blew the engine, the temp gauge never moved above half even when the engine was cooking!  :o

i should add that you should get issuse with your LPG as there won't be enough water to heat the vaporiser.
