Title: Internal Electrics Diagnostic
Post by Fidget on Jan 2nd, 2009, 2:13pm
Using the search facility to find an old post of mine asking for the page which details the test which shows any active electrics is impossible, always getting page timeouts.

Can anyone point me in the direction of the instructions how how to run this diagnostic, I seem to remember it involved holding down one of the heated window switches and another switch, but its just too difficult to find on the main site  ???

If the site admins would like a sponsored site that would be able to handle searches in the forum please let me know by PM, as it stands right now it is dreadfully slow and frustrating, there must be some resource issue with the current hosting provider.

It is slow because the way it searches. The search engine is looking a string of text and due to the large number of posts it looks at every one .

The site running costs are relatively low but there are not many providers who would allow the bandwidth we use without large costs involved.

The site has its own dedicated servers ( two ) and Steve is currently attempting to put in a 100mb pipe .
The hosting is not a problem for us but thanks for the offer.

Steve will no doubt reply if and when he reads your post, but as I stated its NOT the server but the software .

A similar site as this which uses less band width hosted in the UK currrently cost sonsiderably more that we pay .

Ok Snoopy.

I was actually getting timeouts on searches for my own posts with the default search setting.

Optimising MySQL would help, and if its on a dedi then disabling suexec and suphp would speed it right up. I manage a number of high end, high traffic servers so if any advice is needed I'd be happy to offer it.

Thanks for the link Tompion  :)
