Title: Advice wanted Post by SteveC1970 on Jan 21st, 2009, 7:46am Morning all, I am thinking about buying a 2.3 Ultima and was after some advice about what to look out for. Are there any common problems I should watch for etc, etc. Any advice will be gratefully received. |

Title: Re: Advice wanted Post by Tompion on Jan 21st, 2009, 9:43am Look for cracks/coolant leaks around the thermostat housing. Run your hand under the stat housing to see if it's wet or sticky. As it's part of the inlet manifold new ones are very expensive, secondhand ones are hard to get and likely to be on their way out. Damage to the Fuel Cut-off Loom is common (about £130 for a new one), see here: http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/dohcloom.htm |

Title: Re: Advice wanted Post by Jonnycab on Jan 21st, 2009, 1:23pm A comprehensive checklist his here....http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/advice.htm Also, once the engine is warmed up, turn the heating up to full heat & full fan & check that it is nice & hot. If it's cold then this could mean that the heater matrix is blocked. This is a common problem & replacment is very time consuming & costly if you take it to a garage :) |

Costs you the same as a couple of beers, but do an emission test, even if the mot is 1 month old. Will save you a lot of money/trouble later. Don't remember if this was in the shopping guide. |
