Title: Red Key Warning Post by IanF on Jan 28th, 2009, 11:33am We all know how important the red key is don't we? I purchased a second Cosworth estate a couple of weeks ago and the red key was nowhere to be found so off I trot to my local dealer to get a red key, spare black key and the required (red key) programming as we can do the black ones ourselves. First off, a red key and a black key £63! Programming £60 - ouch!! Of greater concern after an hour and a half the service receptionist came over and apologies for the delay and relates the following. "This won't mean a thing to you sir but, the IDS system will not communicate with your car, we had to dig out our old WDS 2000 system, good job it still works." So, if this is the case, keys become even more important should your dealer not have a working WDS 2000. Cheers, Ian |

Title: Re: Red Key Warning Post by IanF on Jan 28th, 2009, 2:40pm Up in sunny Lincolnshire ;D The Cosworth has a PATS system, not sure about security on other models but you cannot program a red spot key without the red key on the Cosworth and my biggest concern is the phasing out of the WDS 5000 without (it appears) any replacement for the future. If there is an aftermarket "fix" for this problem then great, is your vehicle of the Cosworth flavour? Cheers, Ian |

Title: Re: Red Key Warning Post by Chieftain on Jan 29th, 2009, 1:07pm A bit confused now as earlier it was pointed out that a good locksmith could "clone" a black key, now it seems that if you have a Cossie it can not be done. Just phoned 2 dealers from N Wales 1 quoted £163 the other charged £17 for each key and £60 for programming, amazing. |
