Title: 1997 Cosworth Spark Plugs
Post by gerryw on Feb 5th, 2009, 7:34pm
Hi all,

I have just purchased a set of 6 BOSCH SPARK PLUGS TYPE: HR7DCX (as described on the FORD SCORPIO WEBSITE) and I was just wondering if they are the correct type for my Cossie?

Regards
Gerryw :-/

The detail for all cars is HERE (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/diy.htm) :) and the one you quote is one listed for the Cosworth.

Yes Simmo, thats where I got the Bosch Spark Plugs code from.

The only thing I was a bit worried about and why I wanted confirmation was the 'Platinum' part of the Spark Plugs description?

But as you say, the Bosch HR7CDX spark plugs are the ones listed so you have allayed my fears!

Cheers
Gerryw

When I looked for spark plugs for my own, some listed for 24V were not platinum, and I am afraid these (HR7DCX) aren't.

The HR7DCX means
H = M14x1,25
R = suppression resistor
7 = heat range
D = thread length etc.
C = COPPER tip
X = 1,1 mm

(http://www.scribd.com/doc/2677582/BOSCH-Spark-Plug-Guide-Official-Bujias-Bosch)

If the platinum requirement is strict, I would not put these. There is an error in the table that should be corrected.

I was wondering why the page on the site is listing Bosch & champion plugs for the Scorpio as these are both copper tipped  ???.....& copper tipped plugs don't tend to last very long.....about 2000 miles in my MK1 Granny  ::)

I did a similar thing a few years ago on my old 2.0 Scorpio....I fitted some champion plugs. There weren't really any problems to start with, but after only a few thousand miles the plugs were shot & had to be replaced again  ::)
