Title: Tailgate Boot Release
Post by freerein on Feb 10th, 2009, 2:04pm
Hi guys

I am new to the forum - I got myself a Scorp on Saturday and am loving it. It is a 1996 2.3 Ultima Auto estate but it does have the odd problem.

The remotes don't work - I have had the batteries out of both of them and got the tailgate release working on one of them but the other doesn't work at all - does need a bit of a clean on the contacts I think, but I'll get round to that.

The 2 main problems though are 1 the actual button on the tailgate is almost seized. I put the key in, turn it and pull so that the button comes out and then have to shove it in and it only goes about 5mm before it won't go any further though it does open the boot. Then the next time I come to it I have to put the key in and pull the button out from its possition and then push it in to open it again - which is quite a pain - has anyone else had this problem ? Does anyone know how I can fix it?

Also the surround that goes around that button and the number plate is coming away at the top which is a pain - is that easy to replace?

The other thing, and this is the most major is that there is a knocking from the from end. It is more a rattle and it feels like it should be related to the suspension but I'm not sure - it happens when I go over uneven road and only sometimes - Speed bumps, I usually don't hear it.

It is a worrying sound - I just wonder if there is any common problems that I might be missing?

Cheers
Chris

check the front droplinks m8 they are a common rattle problem and not very expensive or hard to replace not sure on the locking thing though

Thanks for the help wumpster - I will check it out

Have sorted a temporary fix for the boot - using the guide from this web site to get the remote working again - I can use that to open it.

I would like to fix it properly though

Tell you what, this forum and the website are an absolutely top resource!
