Title: Disaster.......
Post by Hovis on Feb 16th, 2009, 1:27pm
Its finished before it even really got started  :(

I collected the Scop on Saturday at 12:30 it was back at the garage and dead by 3 :(

I'll try to keep this as short as possible. I picked it up and took it to the fuel station and stuck £25 in it and decided it would be nice to wash it. Within 5mins of leaving the car wash i was in trouble! First I lost all the dash lights then some would come on when i was indicating, braking etc! Then the engine started to run badly....like the turbo had packed up! Finally the dials stopped working! I then made the wise decision to switch it off facing up the hill in front of the drive with a tree 4ft behind me!! I'm sure many of you have guessed that the drain holes were blocked and that the ecu was what could be described as a little damp!! With some effort we managed to bump it in reverse, it was then we found the head was leaking water! I phoned my mate at the garage and said i was bringing it back as it was rougher than i was expecting. When i arrived back 10mins later he started having a poke and prod at the electrics, then it over heated in spectacular fashion the header tank blew and a fountain of red hot water fired out hit the bonnet and sprayed everywhere!!! We did the manly thing.....screamed and ran away!!

I'm sooooo disappointed, I only drove it a few miles and I was extremely impressed!!! Electric everything and it all worked and it did go alright too!

So now there is two questions 1) Does anyone need any parts for a 1995 2.5td?, and 2) Has anyone got one (it can be rough) they want to get rid of? I want one!!!

I don't know if the ECU would be ok when it dried out but the engine got extremely hot so I'd be daft not to get the head skimmed, the costs and time would soon start mounting up.

It's a shame, it would have been nice to do the rally in some comfort for a change!

Where abouts are you wumpster?

The heads arent usually too expensive to get hold of complete - they fitted them to Rovers, Jeeps, Range Rovers, etc....

I'd perservere for a little while before giving up the ghost :)

If he has I very much doubt it will match your lock nuts, there are 100's if not 1000's of different combination's
