Title: Battery Compartment (RUST)
Post by Kenboy on Mar 1st, 2009, 10:06am
Hi I should very much like your advice with this problem.
The locating base plate were the battery sits on is unfortunately badly corroded, my question is, can this plate be removed I think its only spot welded on, the working area is very confined for appropriate access and although this is not a realy serious problem I would very much like to fix it what do you guys suggest.

Many Thanks Kenboy

Many Thanks for that Simmo, removing part of the bulkhead makes life a little easier, we live and learn, well at least I do.

Hi, it can be removed, a spotweld drill bit is best.

Tintin and I removed his once with a standard drill bit on a dark night but it came off fairly easily, the problem is that underneath the bulkhead is a huge pile of electrics, you need to be very careful if welding

Pretty sure you can get a replacement battery tray for a Sierra from Hadrian / Beevers and rather than weld it in use nuts and bolts ?

Mk 1 Sierra battery tray is Part Number: 30-35-291

Maybe worth investigating  ???

If you are interested in a Sierra Mk1 battery tray I will probably be able to get one sometime next week from a car I am scrapping for someone - it is in rust-free condition - yours for the postage.
PM me if interested.
