Getting tempted to get another Scorp

First one i had 2.9 12v ... expensive insurance £400 + (year ago)

So whats the sensible choice ?

must be fast (occasionally go on a autobhan 100+)
Cheapish on insurance
Reliable

you need to shop round for insurance , then get another scorpio ;D
400 quid seems a bit much to me

My Cossie insurance is nothing like that price, as advised shop around. Good luck

They'll all do 100 plus, buy a 2.0 if insurance is a problem.

I see you are 48, what made your quote so high?

I've had a 2.3 and now a 24V - if you can get a decent insurance quote for a Cosworth, I would choose one every time.
MPG on motorway I can get 30 (but not at 100!), reliability, well touch wood I haven't had a problem in 11k miles (72k to 83k now)
Speed, yes it has that and it sounds lovely too. Fuel is marginally worse than my 2.3 but compared to the extra performance on the 24v, I would choose the 24v.
In comparison the 2.3 felt lathargic and heavy. Brakes were noticably better on the 24v too.

In summary I would go for the 24v

Did I mention I recommend the 24v? ;D

I reckon the 2.0 16v is quicker than the 2.3 due to the diff ratio,
never measured it but i reckon the initial take off in a 2.0 16v is even better than the 24v.

Might be a nice wee experiment for the weekend :)

insurance so high cos i had a company car for 5 yrs & had 1 little bump & lost my no claims
building it back up on a Micra
havn't checked for over a year so might not be so bad now

reliability - would love a cossie , just seem a bit highly strung
always thought the 2.3 would be a good comprimise & not so complicated
had a 12v - lovely car but dissapointed in its performance (always reliable though)

erm costs & fuel i'm running this at the moment , reliabl'ish upto now , a bit high maintenance .

I would love my insurance to be 400 my renewal in feb was 500 :o although i do have a claim to my name :(

Wow... Cant believe how high some of your quotes are :o. Im 37 live in one of the worst postcodes in the midlands & have just paid £247 fully comp with protected no claims for the cossie. Im with Adrian Flux & cant recomend them highly enough.

Get a Cossie.
I've had two and they have been perfectly reliable. The first one ran to 120k miles (nothing if you ask others) and was still behaving itself, apart from a few broken toys like elec sunroof, and a joy to drive. If you go for a 2.3 or less, some smart arse like me will leave you standing at the lights, and you will have to go away with your head hung low and buy a BMW or even start drinking lager.
So it's not worth it! 24V, twin cam, chain driven - you know it makes sense.
I pay about £250 ins (I'm 50) and get about 25mpg if I drive within the speed limits.
My biggest problem reminds me of an old advert for the new Series 2 Jaguar XJ:
A garage door part open, revealing a series 1 XJ, and the caption 'whatever next?'. Indeed, where does one go after a Scorpio Cosworth? XJ??

Ooohh. Not advisable Jeff :o. I've had 2 xj6's. A jx40 & the newer x300. Beautifull cars to drive & really luxurious BUT if you think scorpio electrics are bad try tackling jaguars :-/ :-/. Not saying there all like that but if you get a bad one >:( >:( :'( :'(

I had a 2.8i Ghia X Granada which was excellent, but eventually got a bit tired so I changed it for a S3 XJ12 HE.
Never had so much bloody touble, and been so disappointed by a car. Think I might have been the victim of a dodgy car dealer, but the car was awful. I'd wanted one all my life. So eventually I traded that against a Granada Scorpio estate and my life was easier again! Then followed two Cossies and now I'm back to wondering what next. Surely the later XJ's are ok now, aren't they? My mate has a W reg V8, seems ok if you keep on top of the maintenance, but would bite back if he didn't. Hey - it beats golf, doesn't it.
