Title: ? rare autobox issue
Post by Pegasus on Mar 17th, 2009, 10:29pm
Hi All,
hadn't driven the Scorp for 10 days. Started perfectly but I had to tug the gear lever so hard to get it from P to R through to D I thought I was going to snap the lever.  :o

Gear changes still smooth as silk and after driving a few miles moving the lever was as easy as before.

Any ideas as to cause, prevention and, importantly, is this a warning of something due to go tits up?

Cheers

Paul

Yep your linkage is seizing up as its not getting used, get underneath and give it some WD40.

you can get it from the inside by removing the selector buts its easier from below.

Sometimes the linkage will just pop out of the clip but sometimes the cast pivot will break and you need to drop the box to replace it!!

I find '3in1' in the spray can is good for such jobs, as it's got PTFE in it. After my recent episode with the selector link rod coming off (due to lack of spring clip  ::)), I sprayed all the moving parts with the stuff & moving the autostick now just seems alot smoother....I can literally just flick it into Drive  ;)
