Title: Offset adapter necessary?
Post by tlundkvi on Apr 14th, 2009, 8:27am
Hi,

I have a 24V with the standard 16" 12-spoke alloys. Between the rear rims and the hub, there is an approx. 12mm offset plate (on both sides, of course) to push the wheel further out (I have 225/50R16 fitted). The adapter is of very high quality and I believe it's original.

Do you guys have it there as well? Should it be there for the 6.5x16 rims, or has wider/(alt. offset) wheels been fitted by a previous owner and this was simply forgotten.

The reason I'm asking is that I believe my scorp is too low and I would like to push the wheels in a bit. But this is a different story and I'll post a side picture of the car later.

errr... I can't see ford ever fitting spacers when they can just get the wheel manufacturer to alter the cut on the wheel.

what ET are the wheels?

Is the car white or dark blue by any chance?

TT

The car is black and bought from Germany (I am from Finland). The rim is the standard number 2 from above on http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/alloyoptions.htm, 6.5Jx16 ET 40

On the winter tires I have 6Jx15 ET 49,5 (205/65R15 fitted) I put there myself, the spacer weren't for them (steel rims from a Mondeo), and with those the spacer was necessary, otherwise the studs for the bolts would be too long.

But, if it wouldn't get stuck sometimes in the rim an untrained eye would believe it's the hub.

hi there

there should be NO spacer used on the 12 spoke 16" wheel (or any other ford Scorpio wheel).

the previous owner must have liked the 'wide boy' look. :-/

Will remove them, sure must say it looks like 245's or 265's are mounted.

Spacers are removed, but now the studs for the wheel bolts stick out to the extent the hub cap does not come on anymore. Otherwise, now the wheel is much better inside the wheelarch.

Are the studs safe to just cut with a saw/cutter, or do I have to remove the hub and have new studs put in professionally?
