Title: Does anyone know of this Scorpio Cosworth Ultima?
Post by Aardvark on Apr 14th, 2009, 6:50pm
Hi all,

I bought this '98 R reg Cossie Ultima over the weekend on Ebay, See Ebay Listing Details and Pics Here (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230335506244&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.co.uk%3A80%2F230335506244%3F_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dp2773.m38.l1313%26_nkw%3D230335506244%26_sacat%3DSee-All-Categories%26_naf%3D1%26_fvi%3D1&_rdc=1). It looks good to me and the seller has good feedback but I was curious to know if anyone on here knows anything good or bad about the car before I head north to collect it and part with my hard earned cash?

Thanks in advance,

Cheers,

Aarkie

Hi Rich,

Thanks. He'd already Taxed it, confident it would reach £1000+ and TBH I was surprised it never. I expected it'd reach £1100 ish. It's not in the best of colours though, (IMO they are Silver or Blue) but it does look clean and with 4 new boots and new rad, cat, pads etc it can't be too bad.

Cheers,

Aarkie

hi there

i'd just check it was a genuine facelift car.

going with the photos (bad angles, though), i don't see the sticker for the front seat, side air bags.

and the rear seat appears to have a lap belt instead of the 3 point one.

could be wrong though as the camera angle is poor.

Aardvark.
Is it Aubergene ? you may not like it yet,but I bet it grows on you  :) that colour is a favourite amongst many, and when polished up, the sunlight ? really makes it glow in all it's glory ! The only snag is you have to keep it clean or the colour is masked by even a thin film of muck, and it looks a grubby black.
                                  All the best with it

If you look at picture two, you will see it has the third headrest. Also, not all facelifted models have front seat airbags.
It will also state before the VIN on the dash. The number of airbags. x4 or x2.
Also, both front bumper washer caps are missing?
It maybe a shadow on pic one but, the radiator on O/S looks "ballooned"

10/10 for spotting the centre headrest!

0/10 for mistaking the aircon condensor for the radiator ;)

Went to view this the other day   COSWORTH (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=130299186297)
Sounded like a bag of spanners unfortunately.
On the quick inspection, sounded as if it was the waterpump.
Good bodywork but very glad i viewed before commiting to bid.
I also noticed on the day the expansion bottle was behaving like Mount Vesuvius on crack cocaine  ;D
Just spotted on the last pic on the above what looks like a bottle of radweld in the drivers door pocket.  ::)

Yes it had problems with retaining battery life as well.
Brand new alternator though. Lots and Lots and Lots of money spent on it. However, will need some more  ;)
Battery cover was fitted on the day. So, probably removed to jump start.

Thanks to all for your advice and comments , they were well appreciated but......

The car was to be for my father, but due to his very recent health problems it is now best that he keeps to his present Scorpio.
Also, the Ebay Seller failed to mention that he is now in Holland and the car is to be bought at his brothers. ???

I have spoken to the Seller and on the face of things he seems genuine enough and he is now going to re-list the car on Ebay, so in fairness I am going to pay him his re-listing fees.

Thanks again for your learned advice and comments.

If you agree to not complete the transaction the seller gets his fees back anyway. Why pay him ???

He gets his selling fees back, only if I co-operate, but not his listing fees.

But being as he chose to insult me in his re-listing by stating  "Relisted due to a Timewaster" he can go whistle Jacksy for his selling and re-listing fees, which I would have paid for if he only had the decency to state the truth... ie "Re-listed due to genuine reason for a no sale"

He actually sold it for £950, £60 above my previous winning bid but I have a sneaking suspicion that this car is not all as it's cracked-up to be.

Aardvark.
What was the genuine reason for no sale ? can't quite get to grips with it !
Incidentally I have just sold that black bonnet that you were coming to collect last August  ::)
