approx every two weeks go to put it (2.3) into reverse and nothing,it will not engage..

moving the selector around the reverse postion slightly doesnt help ...any ideas appreciated..had the gearbox overhauled a year ago

have to go up/down through gears turn off turn on and then its ok //

Pringle switch, MAF needing cleaned, gearbox oil level... could be a few things, have you tried a scan? any codes?

oil level is fine..checked running etc

cleaned maf last week end shiny clean

pringle switch ?? what is that ?

will run scan this eve...john

about 1/3 way down on that page, if it packs in it will start playing funny with the gears.

Do you have an Ultima? does the passenger mirror dip when you engage reverse? reversing lights coming on?

I'm assuming its an auto you have? Is my memory correct? you had an issue with the selector once in the distant past? :)

just ran scan no codes

it's an auto 2.3 ...next time happens will check mirror and lights but i am sure they didnt ,,mirror makes quite a distinct noise
guess if that's the case it's the switch

the selector stick issue (what a good memory!) was on my other scorp ..it had a vibration through the lever

will read the doc you referred to after this ..tks john

I have looked at the pdf of the selector assy but cannot see the switch ..where is it located please and dwg pdf link if possible

Are you checking the transmission specific codes in the same way you check the ABS? (you also had a problem with the ABS OBD connection in the dim distant past yes)? I'm good!! ;)

is it part 20 on the pdf? is it practical for me to change is it accessible without too much trouble?or is it garage job?

yes checked advanced codes gearbox.....john

Yep thats it, I've never actually changed one, might be possible with the gearbox still in the car or lowered slightly.

Might be a loom problem too though, have a look at the wiring underneath
