Title: Progress of the Y reg Post by amigafan2003 on Apr 17th, 2009, 8:22pm Well, a week of ownership and I'm broken! But in a good way. On Monday I gave the car a good going over and found a few probs:- 1: No rear wheel arch liners. I now have fitted replacements. 2: Oil leak from the sump plug. New sump plug and washer fitted. 3: PS fluid leak. New jubilee clip on the bottom of the PS res outlet. 4: Interior lights not working. Traced to a dead power saver relay, now replaced. 5: Couple of dash/clock bulbs out. Now replaced. 6: ABS/TCS light would come on intermittently. Traced to a corroded rear abs sensor connector. Now cleaned and working ok now. 7: Tyres were barely legal. new Pirelli P6000's fitted all round. Now all the little niggles were sorted I turned my attention to getting the car spruced up. 1st stop was to have Motorsport Developments remap it with one of thier plug in chips. They reckon it's good for 15bhp and 15ft/lb extra but overall the drivability improves. Being an automatic it's hard to prove it on a rolling road but I can confirm it feels smoother all the way through the rev range. Throttle response is noticably crisper too. Then fitted a metal Cosworth badge and dark side repeaters. Fitted 6x8 JBL speakers in the rear and a Kenwood KCH200 media extender in the glove box (lets you play MPS of a USB stick, control iPods etc). Next the engine bay - cleaned with Autoglym Vinyl and plastic restorer/protection. Still alot to do yet - just breaking it down into small chunks atm:- http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v25/amigafan2003/100_2749.jpg Then the interior - cleaned with ArmourAll leather cleaner then treated with Autoglym leather feed:- http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v25/amigafan2003/100_2766.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v25/amigafan2003/100_2767.jpg Then the hard work. Washed the car with Meguirs Gold Class shamppo on Wednesday then clayed it with PoorBoys medium clay bar. I cleaned it again after this then went over the whole car with Autoglym Super Resain polish by hand (really need to buy and orbital buffer). then cleaned it again and sealed the paint with Autoglym Super Gloss protection. then today I cleaned it again and finally applied Meguirs Tech Wax NXT 2.0. Very pleased with the quality of the paint and no real swirl marks to note. I'll let the pictures do the talking:- http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v25/amigafan2003/100_2762.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v25/amigafan2003/100_2757.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v25/amigafan2003/100_2755.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v25/amigafan2003/100_2759.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v25/amigafan2003/100_2761.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v25/amigafan2003/100_2760.jpg I have the car booked into a body shop in a few weeks to get these defects sorted out and then I reckon it'll be pretty much spot on and show worthy :-) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v25/amigafan2003/100_2765.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v25/amigafan2003/100_2764.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v25/amigafan2003/100_2763.jpg Well, thanks for looking and I'll keep you posted on any updates :-) |

Title: Re: Progress of the Y reg Post by amigafan2003 on Apr 17th, 2009, 9:31pm It's a shame the forums are limited to 640x480 pic sizes - the quality of the paintowrk really shows in higher res pics. |
Title: Re: Progress of the Y reg Post by wojtekor on Apr 17th, 2009, 9:40pm let me know how much will fixing those bits in the bodyshop cost. I need to fix exactly the same bits, although i've got a crack in the rear bumper ;) thought i'll sort it out with a full respray but following a specialist's advice i'll respray what needs respraying and do a professional deep polish on the rest of the paintwork... |

Title: Re: Progress of the Y reg Post by amigafan2003 on Apr 17th, 2009, 9:41pm £300 but that's mates rates (a friend who is Free and may be into building things with stone :-). |
Title: Re: Progress of the Y reg Post by wojtekor on Apr 17th, 2009, 10:00pm bit much considering that my mates rates for a full respray was 1500£... :/ edit: wait! i suck at maths ;) and just now recalculated it again and now it sounds pretty fair ;) need to calculate it for the third time to be sure :D |

Title: Re: Progress of the Y reg Post by Highlander on Apr 18th, 2009, 10:25pm Because Scorpio production ended mid 98 so really the last ones should be R/S reg's. Because of late registrations there are a few T's V's W's and one Y reg ;) |

Title: Re: Progress of the Y reg Post by rich1 on Apr 18th, 2009, 10:46pm ahh , now i get it , told you i was a numpty ::) |

Title: Re: Progress of the Y reg Post by Del on Apr 22nd, 2009, 4:53pm Stunning example, one thing I would do though is put clear side repeaters but that is my personal preferance, gotta be that last ever one??? |

Title: Re: Progress of the Y reg Post by Highlander on Apr 22nd, 2009, 5:49pm If i remember rightly it wasnt that late a build date, just the latest registered one we know of, so not the last one ever built, just the last one registered. As far as I can ascertain, the last Scorpio built was registered in Germany, a 2.3 auto Ultima saloon in Moondust silver. The latest built UK one was a Ghia diesel auto saloon in Noveau Red |
Title: Re: Progress of the Y reg Post by amigafan2003 on Apr 23rd, 2009, 7:43am It was actually registered as an S reg, then put on a private plate and when the private plate was removed in 2001, DVLA put a Y reg on it for reasons known only to themselves! |
Title: Re: Progress of the Y reg Post by Simmo on Apr 23rd, 2009, 8:18am 'Y' is of course the year letter for 2001 and even though it was queried by Neil the DVLA insisted it was correct ::) ???. |
Title: Re: Progress of the Y reg Post by Waglet on Apr 23rd, 2009, 8:56am Off topic slightly.....just purchased a 1998 Opel Corsa (for daughter) on a "P" plate. Log book says its a 1998 which should make it "R"/"S" I believe. Does not say 'import' anywhere..... ??? |
Title: Re: Progress of the Y reg Post by big_neil on Apr 23rd, 2009, 10:23am to put everyone who is in doubt . the "Y" reg car was first reg.in nov98 as S878XAV,then private plate XBZ2165was put on and removed by myself in 2001 when i purchased it, much to my confusion DVLA gave me the "Y" plate. my wife is responsible as she didn,t like the irish plate and asked me to remove it if possible. |
Title: Re: Progress of the Y reg Post by Highlander on Apr 23rd, 2009, 2:06pm hmmm i wonder if i could do that and get myself a nice 09 plate ;) |

Title: Re: Progress of the Y reg Post by amigafan2003 on May 28th, 2009, 6:36pm Okay, just got the car back from the body shop and well pleased with the results - this is what it wen in to get fixed:- http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v25/amigafan2003/100_2765.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v25/amigafan2003/100_2764.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v25/amigafan2003/100_2763.jpg And this is how it came out :- http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v25/amigafan2003/100_2783.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v25/amigafan2003/100_2781.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v25/amigafan2003/100_2782.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v25/amigafan2003/100_2784.jpg Very pleased - my body shop guy said the archers were goo and hadn't perforated so they've been rubbed down, stoppered, primered and painted. He's also stripped sealer from behind the archers and re-sealed them to prevent further water ingress. Bumper was plastic welded and strengthened with firbre glass from behind. It's gonna be a tough six weeks waiting until I can flat and wax it to get the deep shine the other panels have >:( |
