Title: Temp gauge/cruise control abnormality
Post by homer2themax on Apr 21st, 2009, 8:10pm
Ok, here's the deal.
On occasion I have glanced at the temp gauge and it has been reading very low considering the time the car has been driven.
In fact, several times when I've taken my eyes off the road for a few seconds I have actually witnessed the gauge dropping from midway to just above or sometimes into the blue.
Further to this I have also noticed that sometimes the cruise control light goes out momentarily. The cruise still works without fault but the light just goes off and on when it feels like it.
I have seen both things happening independently of one another so I don't think they're necessarliy related but.....knowing the wiring problems in these cars I was wondering if I should be. Is this a sign of trouble to come?
Any other advice would be gratefully received.
Cheers,
Mark

Sounds like a multiplug connection fault to me - might be worth stripping out the dash and dosing it with contact oil.

Ideal time to change all the bulbs in the dash  ;)

Sounds like an awful lot of trouble for something I might be prepared to live with. Also, car had clocks changed by Ford at about 24k (68k ago) so might be responsible???

There is a known problem with the temp gauge although slightly different to what you describe but may be worth a look HERE (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/coolanttempgauge.htm). ;)

homer.
Remove the wire from the temp gauge sender, get someone to look at the gauge with ignition switched on,and scrape the terminal to ground,if the gauge rises to the top, change the sender, about six quid pattern part.
