Title: Advice needed
Post by homer2themax on Apr 22nd, 2009, 10:04pm
Picking up a leather interior and rear bumper and light for my car on Sunday.
Only thing is, seller might not have had time to remove it before I arrive. Despite having owned dozens of cars in the past I have never so much as unscrewed a bolt on a seat so......
Is there anything I should be careful of or look out for when removing these items? Do I need any special tools?

Thanks in advance,
Mark

Cant say anything specific about what you might need to look out for, but ensure you have a full set of torx bits :)

You'll probably need them

Thanks for that, I'll make sure I have.
I did have a fairly comprehensive toolkit until some little oik nicked them. Unfortunately they were in the back of my second MK3 at the time  and he used that to transport them >:(

10mm socket, and extensions for the fronts, a 10mm combi is handy in case you get a tight one.

its easier to remove the rear front seat bolts with the seats fully forward.

rear base is four large Phillips screws.

rear backs can be torx bits (40's or 45's I think) or bolts.

bolsters  you need a big ring spanner for the back seat catches (17 or 19mm I think) and large torx for the seat belt mounts (45 again i think) small phillips to remove the side trim on the floor.

Make sure the battery is disconnected before you remove them just in case you get a bit of excitement with airbags going off etc ;)

Oh and if they are electric front seats its handy to recline them all the way back BEFORE you unplug them/disconnect the battery or you'll struggle to load them into your car! (DONT ASK HOW I KNOW THIS)!  }{
