Title: Octane ?

Has anyone noticed difference in fuel consumption or power when using higher octane fuel ?

Certainly have chap. When using normal 95ron unleaded i average around 24 mpg. If i use something like BP Ultimate then it drops to around 19 mpg  :o. Really dont understand why it would be that much of a difference  ???. I would expect a higher octane fuel to burn quicker because it's producing a more efficient / hotter burn, but not to that extent  :-/. As for power difference ? ? . Not enough to write home about .

Dont think that the scorps have knock sensors/variable timing so the benefit from super will be marginal (except the one you notice in your pocket  ;) )

I have tried 97 octane fuel before, but have not noticed any difference in performance or mpg. The only thing I noticed was it was costing me more  ::)

I always stick to the cheaper 95 octane now, but one thing I have noticed is that not all 95 octane is the same. I tend to use either BP or Esso standard unleaded & there is definately a difference between the two.....that being Esso petrol definately makes the car more responsive. Not sure why this is  ???...maybe they all use slighly different percentage mixes of ethanol etc....who knows ?  :-/

hi all this may help i worked for esso for a while . a lot of the big companys use refined fuel with addatives eg esso bp shell ( we had shell and bp and jet using esso fuel but bp put in more addatives than other 2) tescos and other use blended fuel with is not as pure as the refind so this is why fuel consumption is better on refind fuel  :)
