Title: Aux Warning Light
Post by tonyboy on May 13th, 2009, 4:34pm
What does it mean when the warning light with the picture of the radiator and the fan comes on, I know this must seem a bit strange but it only comes on when i'm on the A509 and only stays on for about 10 mins then it will go out and it won't come untill a week later when i'm on the A509 again. Strange ???

strange indeed :) as far as i'm concerned it indicates low level of the cooling fluid. is the temp gauge working ok? maybe there are some overheating/radiator fan related faults...

Thanks for the fast reply. The coolant is always at the same level, so i'm not loosing any coolant. And my temp gauge always reads about half way. I did see some where about spraying the sensor with somthing but i can't find it again and i forgot what it was sprayed with

probably spraying it with the MAF Sensor Cleaner would do... you can get the on ebay and it is known to work on any sensors ;)

Yep the sensors can go wonky, I have a diesel that comes on intermittently but a wiggle on the sensor sorts it :)

Best thing IMHO would be to stop and look to see if there is water in the bottle as you could have an air lock

And then its back to normal my old 2.8 inj was a pain for this

also check temp gauge is it Normal whan it happens it might just be the sensor like the others say

hi tonyboy

I had his on my cossie also my car had a vaccum in the expansion bottle and on removing the top the water rushed back it to the expansion bottle.

i changed the expansion bottle and the two small hoses which run in to it as they were full of crap and the level switch was faulty.

If you follow the small hose from the expansion bottle back to the front of the engine(on the cossie i think this is part of the IM )  there is an elbow there which was also full of crap.

then my mate put some coolant flush through the system

after that we we flushed the system with clean water and then forced flushed the system, to make sure we got all the air out.

we then mixed the coolant and force filled the system

this sounds like a lot of work but took about 40 mins

now no probs
