Title: engine size
Post by RICHY on May 14th, 2009, 6:30pm
just finished building a 2.3 engine for my mk5 escort rs2000 using a scorpio block and rs2k head and what a difference it makes ;D

question is just about to fill in log book with new engine number and size but what is the engine size my 2ltr engine is a 1998cc so is the 2.3 just a 2.3 or is it slightly less or more ???

thanks for any help  :)

will have a look see what bits i have spare and post them up will only be looking for postage plus a few beer tokens :)

hi there

i think it's the block size that counts, but see what others think.

hi again

are you using a different management system with it?

nope standard rs2k managment with a collins plug in power chip and adjustable fuel pressure regulator

Yep i think the 2.3 was just a bigger bore so its a 2.3 you have :)

hi there

wasn't sure it would run with stock management.

that would be my next mod, a good after market ecu. i reckon that and a remap would give another jump in performance.  ;)

still a good bit of work, though. :)

Well known conversion :) doesnt give a massive hike in BHP, but the extra torque from the 2300 bottom end is hair raising, im told :)

RS2K management will be fine, as it controls settings via lamba/MAP readings - these will have been optimised by the collins map on the chip.

Expect around 170 - 180bhp on the rollers :)

The exact capacity of a "stock" scorpio 2.3 engine is 2295cc.  You're may be slightly less of slightly more depending on combustion chamber volume of the RS2K head.

I dont think thats taken into account is it?

I always thought it was a straight (bore x stroke) calculation?

Agree - swept volume

Oh that sounds technical, i'll go with that :)

And here was me away to put some washers on the 24v spark plugs to give me a 3.0  ;D

cheers fella's stuck it down as 2300 and sent it off this morning.

next mods to engine are mappable ecu and throttle bodies ;D wont be till the winter time. gonna get it checked over on the rollers and fuel pressure set and that will do for this year you can feel the difference in the torque very very nice. :)

another bonus was insurance they said no extra charge :o :D

In that case (I didn't know it was just swept volume quoted for engine size) the Cosworth is technically a 3.1 - chamber size is 35cc giving 140+2935 = 3075cc

With a Bore 9.3cm & Stroke 7.2cm it works out at a tad under 2935 for the Cosworth, don't really know why you're adding on 140cc

I see what you're saying but is your 24v a 4 cylinder then?? ;)

6 x 35 = 210 not 140 }{

So swept volume plus chamber volume = 3145
BUT the engine size is 2935 :)

Convention is engine capacity = bore x stroke
Always has been, always will be although not sure this applies to W@nkel engines  :D
