Title: Pollen Filter ?
Post by lesterlad on Jun 3rd, 2009, 12:22am
How often does the pollen filter need to be changed, does it have to be a FMD filter or is there an aftermarket filter available ?

And has anyone tried those aerosol aircon cleaners that are left in the car for a few minutes while aircon is running ?
More to the point, do they work ?

My aircon stinks like my sons smelly socks  }{

I change my pollen filters (there's 3 of them) every other oil change (20K) when they usually start to look a bit dirty. I usually buy pattern ones from my local car shop for £7.00  :)

A good aircon cleaner is the Comma aerosol cleaner. I tried this one a couple of years ago & it smelled lovely & fresh afterwards. It's the one that you shut all the windows & have the aircon switched on & set to re-circ. Put the can on the back seat, then push the top of the can (it stays down) & the aerosol slowly releases & gets re-circulated around the system for 10 minutes  :)

Must add that you shouldn't be in the car while it's doing it's job, it'll probably make you quite ill  ;)

or quite high  ;D }{

the pollen filters are cheap as hell so it's a good idea to change them as a part of a regular service...

I used a similar product from CRC. It was a foam you filled the empty space after removing the old pollen filters, which then was sucked into the venting channels slowly during approx. 20 minutes with full heat and circulation. Effectively cleaned the system and left the car fresh. The bottle was large and is enough for two treatments. Cost ca 7 euros at a factor.
