Title: Boot Tension
Post by Kenboy on Jun 10th, 2009, 3:57pm
Had the car a number of years now and although the boot unlocks with the remote it will not open up, this is because the springs need to come back a notch or two. easy said but what is the safest way I have to say, not important but curious more than anything else. (2.3 Saloon)

Get someone to hold the boot lid up (it can "skew" to one side otherwise), put a pair of thick gloves on and just unhook the spring on each side and set them back an equal number of notches.

The springs are tough but not dangerous like suspension springs.  Worst that you'll get is a nip on the fingers, hence why I recommend gloves.

a rope on the hook end of the spring with a couple of large chaps on the other end will help no end too ;)

Or shorten the springs using some industrial type cable ties you only need to do about 4/5 coils and all is back in working order again ..easier than pulling springs.

I did mine ages ago by the method I quoted and it worked and still was when I sold it ..and the covers over the springs hid the ties .

I do like the zip tie thinking but it would wind me up something rotten knowing they were there.

Don't know why though - the Westfield has thousand of the bloody things on it!
