Title: Front speaker upgrade
Post by Tekno on Jun 12th, 2009, 5:00pm
I'm going to replace front speakers.

Speakers in the front doors are about 4,5 inch. Strange size, huh ??? Cutout is 110 millimeters. Max depth is 60mm (If you put deeper, window will not go fully down)

My plan is to buy 5,25 Hertz speakers. They have 119mm cutout.

Then I put tweekers to "mirror triangle". But to not install them too easily, I will flush mount them. I'll update as project goes on.

Front doors have "multiplugs" so it's easier to left them as stock but cut speaker wires from back of the player and join speaker wires from amplifier there.

not the best soldering in the world though }{ }{ you would have done better using the 'snap connectors'...

I did put wires here (look the picture) (wires not shown).

I used:
- 50 mm2 to battery (+)

Paired:
- 2,5mm2 left side speaker wire (+)
- 2,5mm2 right side speaker wire (+)

Paired:
- 1,5mm2 left side speaker wire (-)
- 1,5mm2 right side speaker wire (-)

- 1,0mm2 from "acc" to amplifier

Existing rear speaker wires are used for amplifier inputs.
Yes I know, rca cables carrying preamped signal would be better.
But Ford 7000 RDS does not have RCA outputs ::)

Now you ask "Why (-) wire only 1,5mm2".

I was lazy and just used wires I had. Another options to my "thin negative wiring" was to use 2,5mm2 to left and 1,5mm2 to right or vice versa. :-/
2,5mm2 and 1,5mm2 are both enough for speaker wires in low distances and it's still easy to recognize them now. Thinner means negative and red stripe means right side.

Old Scorpio/Granada mk III "mirror triangle" fits nicely Scorpio. But it needs to be cut a little bit from bottom so door panel does not collide with it.

I'm going to use it for tweeter installation because it has more empty space under it. Enough for nice flush mounting. New Scorpio's mirror triangle is very "flat" compared to it.

Am I using correct word? mirror triangle  ::)

I changed my mind about speakers. Just ordered these:

Rainbow SLX 230 Dreamline

- Woofer: W 130 SLX
- Mounting depth without / with ring: 54 / 52 mm
- External diameter without / with ring: 130 / 164 mm
- External diameter with edges: 153 mm
!! Installation diameter: 113 mm !! (very close to 110mm)

- Tweeter: CAL 20 Silk
- Mounting depth: 11 / 14 mm
- External diameter: 36 / 45 mm
- Installation diameter: 33 / 41 mm

A little problem. My Ford 7000 doesn't show anything in LCD screen. Sometimes while driving it starts working. It's asking security code now. (I had to disconnect battery leads) Should I try to enter code blindly  ::)

button 5 was confirm, wasn't it ?

edit: Got working  :D
