Title: Brake power
Post by tlundkvi on Jun 12th, 2009, 5:41pm
Does anyone know what the brake power should be per wheel on front and rear axles? Recall from my MOT it was something around 2,5kN front/wheel and 2,0 kN rear. It would be interesting to see how my car brakes rate in comparison to the specification (with new brakes). Tried to look for it in different specs but couldn't find it.

Never seen any information of that sort in ALL the years I have been dealing with the Scorpio . Others might though!

You would think this would be properly specified, apparently not. Our mot prints the data on the certificate, to "prove" if braking force is not balanced. Haven't done it with new OEM's ever to know what the values should be.

I changed all discs and pads. Then straight way to the MOT:

                 Left  Right
Front          2,7kN 2,7kN
Rear           2,3kN 2,0kN
Handbrake 2,0kN 1,7kN

Parts used: TRW discs (black), front pads: Jufi, rear pads: Remsa

I have 2.3 (smaller brakes than 2.9 24V)

The brakes fitted on this Scorp are OEM and could do with a complete overhaul . I thought they were really poor compared to my other Scorp's braking efficiency. Surprisingly, it passed.  ???   ;D
Will post the difference when other Scorp fitted with new Mintex Disc and Pads goes for yearly health check up  ;D

The MOT will be interested in mostly the balancing in the breaking. Over here a maximum of 30% difference. I guess there is a lower limit on the force, but balancing seems to be the crucial factor.

Will post my data when I have it measured (is at best in any case after 1000km driving when pads have properly bedded in). My pre-service data was quite in line with Tekno's, I don't expect any revolutionary improvement. My front discs had a small wear, nothing bad (replaced). The rears are still much better than the fronts were, so I keep them for the next set of pads. So all will be new except for the rear discs.

cant get better than a locking brake, limiting factor is then friction of tyres on rollers.
