I am trying to design a new wiring diagram for my engine (24V BOB). After I have removed all the unnecessary stuff, what should I be left with?
The engine is being used in a kit car with a manual gearbox conversion; there will be no ABS, cruise control, traction control, auto box or security system, I just need the engine system on its own.
What sensors do I need to keep in order for the engine to function as a standalone unit, utilising the original fuel injection and an aftermarket (megasquirt) ECU?

It can be done but the money cost is IMHO is not worth it as you will need if memory serves me right an after market ECU and not sure on the dizzy Then there is the MAF to sort out then not to sure about say an OBD so

I run megasquirt on my kit car..

You'll need a place to sense Manifold Air Pressure (MAP) from - you can ditch the MAF.
You need a Coolant Sensor, Air temp sensor and a way of sensing RPM. However, I will assume you are going wasted spark with the ECU so the VR sensor should suffice.

As far as sensors go that's it.

Other wiring from the ECU will go to the coil pack (three connections that are switched earths through the ecu), injectors (again, earths through the ECU - you'll probably be batch firing so two earth "channels") and one for the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS).

Depending on what emissions regs you need to confirm to, you'll also need a narrow band lamda sensor if you need to get < 1% CO (but you can use on of the BOB's pre cat sensors).. I highly recommend a wideband controller though - it will make your tuning efforts much easier.

Hi Amigafan, that was exactly what I needed, thanks for that. It will be a while before I am ready to actually do this work, just at the wiring diagram stage, would it be alright if I contacted yourself at a later date and asked more questions? :)

I am buying my Megasquirt ready built with an initial map (just so as it will start then I can tune it, hopefully) from EFIextra total cost £315 plus the wideband lamda at £175 and apart from some time and frustration it shouldn't cost much more than that, although I will probably replace all of the other sensors at the same time.

£250 for an MS1 v3 Squirt+Spark ecu and that's it - nothing else to add on a BOB install. £120 for an LC-1 wideband kit if you want to map it yourself.

To make a nice install I reconmend a relay board and RS Autosports loom - another £80.
