Title: rear view mirror Post by joe-satch on Jul 8th, 2009, 8:15am morning to all members, our daughter is having a new windscreen fitted today,im going to remove the rear view mirror and mirrior bracket for replacement onto the new screen....can any member recommend a good method of fixing the mirrior bracket back onto the new screen please??.. :)..these sticky pads are no good..and as the mirrior is heavy i doubt that the sticky pads would work..so im not going to bother with them...so im open to any other ideas..thank you..regards den. :). |

Title: Re: rear view mirror Post by Jonnycab on Jul 8th, 2009, 8:38am I know what you mean Den, the sticky pads from the local motor factor are pretty useless, but one of the original sticky pads from Ford should do the job I would have thought. Make sure you get the faces spotlessly clean before you stick the pad on ;)..... :) |

Title: Re: rear view mirror Post by Simmo on Jul 8th, 2009, 10:17am If the screen is being replaced by someone like Autoglass they should do it anyway. They did mine and it has never been a problem. I have also used the genuine Ford ones..about 20p IIRC and they are very good. |

Title: Re: rear view mirror Post by lesterlad on Jul 8th, 2009, 9:03pm When Autoglass fitted mine the new screen had the bracket already fitted, obviously it had to be removed as mine doesn't have the dipping mirror. |

Title: Re: rear view mirror Post by Scorpio_Mike on Jul 9th, 2009, 10:11pm I made an enquiry for a new heated screen last year and was quoted £180 fitted for cash ;) |

Title: Re: rear view mirror Post by pinto on Jul 9th, 2009, 11:20pm Screens are usually a lot cheaper than you think :) Even a heated scorp one ? I'd expect around £160 fitted :) As for the Mirror, I'd reccomend the 2 pack epoxy kits - never had a mirror fixed this way fall off again (in fact, when i removed the one from my scrapper 4x4 ghia sierra, it broke the screen coming off :o) |

Title: Re: rear view mirror Post by joe-satch on Jul 10th, 2009, 6:54am hi all..well some very good guesses at the cost...in fact it was £150..all in...its clear that there is a mark up on windscreens from fitters..but £150 is a very good price.yes thanks pinto for that tip....the screen fitters did provide a strong pad...for the mirrior back plate...seems to be holding...for now.. :).regards den. |
