Title: Alarm
Post by Jonnycab on Jul 12th, 2009, 4:34am
Been having a bit of trouble with the alarm going off recently. It might wait a few hours (usually middle of the night  ::)) before it goes off, or it may start sounding after a few minutes.

Obviously my first thought is the bonnet switch, but how can you check this ?...... & if I disconnect it, will it just start beeping anyway ?  :-/

What about the two sensors mounted inside the car, adjacent to the door pillars...are these particularly problematic ?

Advice please  :)

if you disconnect the bonnet switch the alarm won't even arm so there is no way it will start beeping ;)

Thanks Woj  ;)....So how do I identify the problem...i.e....confirm that it is the bonnet switch which is at fault ?  :-/

Jon. How about removing the switch and bridging the terminals?. I assume the alarm is triggered by a 'break' in the circuit but a check with a meter would confirm. If the switch appears to work correctly try a small piece of packing in the unit on the bonnet itself just to increase the pressure on the switch. ;)

Woj  do you think that would also work on an Escort? as her indoors alarm does the same as Johhny's

Title: Re: Alarm
Post by wojtekor on Jul 12th, 2009, 10:10am
definitely worth a shot... i know for a fact that it works also for Mondeo...

Cheers guys for the advice  ;).....A continuity check of the bonnet switch seems to say there is nothing wrong with it & it's switching fine. I suppose there is always the chance that it decided not to play up while I was testing it  ::), so for the moment I've unplugged it & bridged the connector.

Just have to wait & see if it goes off again  ;)

Alarm's gone off again, so it's not the bonnet switch at fault  ::)

Damm!!! so far all quiet on her Escort, I think it is boot related as it has 3 plungers in the tail gate and one keeps sticking.  found if I unlock the boot with key after car locked it seems to work.  Not much use to oyu though JC

Might be able to read it through OBD if you're at the Kent meet, although there may be some old codes,(mine often shows 3 boot related codes).
Since you have the internal sensors, I read somewhere about someone having their car alarm go off at night - went out with a torch & saw a moth flying about inside.

Definately no bugs flying about inside  ;)

Jon. Have you tried spraying all the door locks?. The only other thing that sometimes causes problems is the contacts in them. If it is 'your' car then all the doors presumably get used regularly but it may be worth a try. As Dave says could the boot/hatch be the cause if it not absolutly tight. Again , I guess yours would get a fair bit of use and thus may be a bit 'loose'.

Hello. just a thought . If it was one of the contacts on the boot, bonnet,or doors would it show on the dash where it tells you if there is something open...........

Title: Re: Alarm
Post by Jonnycab on Jul 14th, 2009, 10:05am
Right then, checked the boot lock & it's fine & all wiring is on tight, the door locks seem fine although I haven't removed the door cards to check for any loose wiring yet.

One thing I did find though was that if I doubled locked myself in the car with the key fob (couldn't get out) & moved my hands over the motion sensors, the alarm didn't go off  ???.....so am I to presume that the motion sensors aren't working ?....possibly they are non-motion sensors  ;D

I've disconnected them both for the moment to see how it goes....play it by ear  ;)

Incidently, with both motion sensors disconnected the flash on double lock still works, so it's still armed  :)

Title: Re: Alarm
Post by Jonnycab on Jul 15th, 2009, 10:09am
A whole 24 hours & the alarm hasn't gone off yet  :D

Fingers crossed it stays that way & that it was down to faulty motion sensors  :)

Just a thought, I'm presuming the alarm is still set with the motion sensors unplugged as the flash on double lock is working, but how do I make sure...ie set the alarm off without breaking anything ?  :)

Sit in the car, lock using the fob, open the door.
Or, I would imagine, leave the window open, lock the door, reach in & open the door.

Cheers Dave, alarm is working fine  :)....Armed & Ready  ;)

Title: Re: Alarm
Post by Jonnycab on Jul 16th, 2009, 2:29am
Alarm's still behaving itself, so it looks like it was defo the motion sensors at fault  :)

Don't think I'll replace them, as they seem a bit pointless  ::).......Instead, I've got a much better idea  :D

They may come in useful for a fake CCTV setup.......a small hole drilled in each one with a wired up red LED sticking out & black plastic covers over the sensors would look quite convincing I reckon  ;)....

A couple of window stickers informing people that 'This vehicle is equipped with CCTV' & I reckon all the drunken yobs that get in will behave like angels & be more than willing to pay what the meter says  ;D

Looks good Gazza, unfortunately, if I were to install a real CCTV system in the car, my licensing authority insist that it has to have a sealed recorder that only them & the police are allowed access to....something to do with the data protection act  ::)

???
Im not to sure re this cctv legal stuff...
We all know there is cctv cameras in and around towns and is used in evidence in court . . .

Now how many of you watch the Cops on tv

Street crime on BRAVO
Road wars on Sky 2

Now when the villan gets anoyed with the camera man and starts shouting the police say its ok he is in a public place and can record it ?
and then they say when the footage was used in court Joe Blogs lost his licence and was found £xxx pounds

So if I was you I would deffo get one . .
I Still might get one you never know  ;)

I know what you mean Gazza, daft isn't it  ::)  But when I questioned the councils policy, they said that if the recorder wasn't sealed then in theory I could go home & watch it & according to the data protection act, this is a no-no......Could also be considered to be voyeurism apparently  ???

Could someone tell me if alarm shoud sound when  I close the car from remote (single lock) and open the door through the opened window?
My car doesn't sound. But I remember, that it used to sound when i opened the boot of locked car by the key. If i doublelock the car - I can't open it even form inside, and can't open boot by the key.

Thanks

There you go mate its not LAW just the councils policy which is NOT british law. . .
Just ask the council to take down all the cctv cams they have in your town then  ;D
Also the bus company's have them  installed  ( well they do up here in Leicester )

Yea whats wrong with that if it covers the front with you and passengers ?
thats what its for to watch it. .  and if used in court some one else will watch it  ::)
and if any thing bad happened (hope to god it wont ) then you got it all on tape instead of your word against theres

cctv in shops for the thief's yea some one will watch it and there will be innocent people on it as well

All the people who use cameras / cctv can be used in a court of law. . .
Do you remember all the going on re fox hunting and people taking there cams to use against the police that was on the news . . .
mate fit on in ya cab if only to protect ya self

Also (last one ) the news to night Steven Gerrard Bar Brawl CCTV footage

I rest my case

Thanks for that Gazza.......I've done a little investigating & have found out that the law has changed regarding CCTV in taxi's. A sealed recorder is longer required & it has now been put in the same catagory as CCTV outside your frontdoor etc, so can be viewed  :)....I'll be speaking to the carriage officer shortly about it  ;)

Ivan...yes, the alarm should sound if you single lock it with a window open & then try to open it with the inner handle....mine does.........& if you double lock it, then you shouldn't be able to open the door with the inner handle, it prevents someone from opening it by sliding something inside the door  :)

Thanks , Jonny!
Will check wiring diagrams to know what to look for. Any most known issues (faulty beeper, relay, loom, etc.)?

Today tok a look at the beeper - hitting it with a metal stick and ajusting the tuning screw made it alive (I think it just became rusty during the winter).
So my car beeps when I open it in an "unauthorized" way.
But it doesn not flash!
Should the car flash (I mean hazard indicators) when alarm is working?

Ivan, not all Scorps flash on double lock....my old '95 didn't.....I think it's just the later mid '97 onwards that do  :-/

Title: Re: Alarm
Post by Ivan Pevnitsky on Jul 27th, 2009, 7:29am
Jonny, I know, but my did always flash after doublelock. And I suppose it should flash o alarm (i just don't remember - have seen my car in alarm state only twice or so). It stopped flashin on doublelock after the 4 months of staying on open air in winter (battery totally died).
