Title: Rear Shock Absorbers Estate Post by shooshyneman on Jul 14th, 2009, 1:07pm I have oil leaking from a rear shock absorber is it an easy job? Its the estate version. It looks like a normal shocker so doesnt seem to have self leveling etc However I am told there are oil filled and gas types is this true? |

Title: Re: Rear Shock Absorbers Estate Post by tlundkvi on Jul 14th, 2009, 2:14pm I believe all estates had selflevelling, check the supension manual on the site. If there was a make of regular shockers for the estate I'm sure many are interested in knowing what brand and type number it has. New estate shockers are very expensive (you can easily fit regular shockers on the saloon if air shockers are installed). |

Title: Re: Rear Shock Absorbers Estate Post by shooshyneman on Jul 14th, 2009, 5:50pm How do these self levelling ones work? looking at the manual I have a linkage to the anti roll bar, Yes. Then if they are self levelling it seems there is a pipe which runs from this shocker to the other side. I have no pipe there does not appear to be a connection between them concluson ordinary ones or is this wishful thinking, These apear to be factory fit dont beleive they have ever been changed car is 1998 "S" reg 2.5TD Estate |

Title: Re: Rear Shock Absorbers Estate Post by Jonnycab on Jul 14th, 2009, 6:10pm The self levelling shocks on Scorp the estate don't have any pipes coming off them as they aren't manually adjustable like the old Granada ones which used a compressor :) |

Title: Re: Rear Shock Absorbers Estate Post by shooshyneman on Jul 14th, 2009, 7:17pm Yes thats the one! Is that self levelling? how does that work? Why are they so expensive? £208.00 +vat quoted Does that metal pin slide out of that bush easily? to release the shocker? |

Title: Re: Rear Shock Absorbers Estate Post by Tekno on Jul 14th, 2009, 8:58pm In which height does that adjust rear after installing -35mm or -40mm lowering springs ? The ones you have are standard self levelling oil filled shocks. The metal pin shouldnt come out, that bush is bushed :) Replacement bushes arent available either! You need to lower the rear arm to get the shocks/springs out. Best advice is to look for some second hand ones, there are no cheap alternatives. Many a good estate has gone to the scrapyard because their owner couldnt justify £500 for two rear shocks, sad but true :-/ |

Title: Re: Rear Shock Absorbers Estate Post by Highlander on Jul 14th, 2009, 11:49pm New pair on ebay but £400! :-/ Try the parts wanted section for someone breaking one or look on ebay for someone breaking one. eBay Rear Shocks (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FORD-SCORPIO-2-0-2-5-2-9-ESTATE-SHOCK-ABSORBERS-REAR_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ65Q3a12Q7c66Q3a2Q7c39Q3a1Q7c72Q3a1683Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem4ce230a7b0QQitemZ330212353968QQptZUKQ5fCarsPartsQ5fVehiclesQ5fCarPartsQ5fSMQQsalenotsupported) |

Title: Re: Rear Shock Absorbers Estate Post by tlundkvi on Jul 15th, 2009, 6:00pm I found this article about Nivomat. Interesting reading. Page 4 explains why some aftermarket coil springs appear to be very low quality. The problem is those springs are sold as "also self-levelling" instead of "only self-levelling". http://www.cadillacfaq.com/faq/answers/pdf/nivomat.pdf |

Title: Re: Rear Shock Absorbers Estate Post by shooshyneman on Jul 15th, 2009, 6:21pm Very Interesting, I had no idea they were so clever. No wonder they are so dammned expensive. Now should I replace one or both, new or second hand? anyone with any offers or ideas |

Title: Re: Rear Shock Absorbers Estate Post by Highlander on Jul 15th, 2009, 7:03pm up to you :) I'm a cheapskate motorist, I would (and do) replace one unit with a second hand unit. The purists out there would fit a pair of new ones but if it works and passes the MOT then what more do you need. The cost of a pair of new ones fitted would probably exceed the value of your Scorpio ;D |

Title: Re: Rear Shock Absorbers Estate Post by Jonnycab on Jul 16th, 2009, 1:15am I notice in the link that tlundkvi posted.......'fig.10: Most important NIVOMAT applications'.....it doesn't mention the Scorp estate, but does mention the Mondeo estate (wagon) ??? I wasn't aware that the Mondeo estate ever had self levellers fitted......unless it is referring to the brand new Mondeo.....but it can't be, because the date at the top of the page says '11 Oct 2000' :-/ |

You could try parts wanted, or bildelsbasen.se You could also try this breaker in Germany scorpioteile24@aol.com I think Stuart once mentioned if you install a used one it doesn't need to be replaced in pairs, in case only one is broken. |

It's the previous Scorpio 86-94, called Granada in the UK. But if they would fit, there would be posts all over. The saloon shocks are interchangeable 86-98, but the springs are e.g. completely different between Scorpio I and II. |
