Scorp back from the garage (again). Had the fuel pump changed with the one obtained from Scorpio member. Garage inform me that the connector which is part of the loom shows signs of "burning". So far the car starts every time but I'm not hopeful that all is cured. Is there a way of changing this fuel pump connector or is it a new loom? Not technical myself so any assistance would be helpful.

From the diagrams it looks like a multi plug connector, can this be modified/repaired?

well it can be changed for a new one. but if it shows signs of burning you better investigate the whole loom and possibly change it or rebuild it.

hi there

i'd lift up the rear seat base and see if you can see any wiring. remember the abs wiring will be under there as well, so leave that alone.

then it's a case of following it back to where it joins the main car loom.

have you checked that the correct rated fuse is being used?

maybe someone that has stripped down a scorpio will know more about how it's made up. i wouldn't imagine that's there's much difference from the rear seat back between the engine sizes.

Pretty sure from what I've been told by the Ford Specialist and my 'local garage' (that I really get on well with) that its the connector to the fuel pump/sendor. Why they have'nt changed/modified/repiared this is a bit beyond me! Trouble is its the 'tank out' every time someone looks at it, shame there is not a way in from inside the car! ;D I need a mobile electrician who can take the tank out in the Milton Keynes Bucks area, ha ha. Still on the 18th Aug this year I qualify for scrappage as I'v had the car 1 year! Wish I could afford a new car :(

Got the part from Ford today. Looks to be the right bit of kit, (multiplug plus cable)! Hurrah. However the tow truck came out to pick up the car and take to local garage for tank removal and change multi plug and promptly broke down! Result – a tow truck for the tow truck. I’m beginning to think my Scorpio may be getting like Christine in the Stephen King novel! I’ll keep you posted.

Got all excited for nothing, it’s the wrong part! Ford shows the only part as the one they supplied. However I need a 4 wire connecting plug (black in colour) with a spring clip. I have posted a request for one of these in the "parts wanted" section. If any one can help on here it would be very helpful. Thanks.

There is a girl on here,'Estate Maiden' who had a duff fuel pump,her partner Keith cut a panel out above the pump as we used to do in days gone by.He said the strap bolts would have broken off if he tried to remove the tank !

Can is a relative word. It could be possible to replace the plug if you remove the wheelhouse cover on the right and inspect it. We disconnected it before dropping the tank. But if you are talking about the connector on the pump assembly you need to lower it for sure.

can't you hard wire it in, thus by-passing this PITA multiplug?

4 wires and a bit of solder.

My thoughts entirely! However my "mechanic" is reluctant to do this. as I type he is hot footing it to a scrappy to see if he can get one!

All done. Mechanic removed the old plug from scrapped Scorp, wired it up and hey presto a fully working Scorp. First time for ages. I've checked out the `old one` and indeed one of the terminations is definitely iffy, enough to prevent the fuel pump kicking in apparently. Thanks all for your help and assistance. Glad I persevered.
