Title: Rear stabilizer bars
Post by tlundkvi on Aug 16th, 2009, 6:23pm
Noticed my rear stabilizer bar has developed quite a lot of rust scale at the bend on both sides.

In the catalogues it says, 24V uses a 21mm thick stabilizer bar, while the others use a 20mm thick. Across the range, there was a change in 1/96. It seems both estate and saloon uses the same part.

The question is, are the updated bars at all compatible with the first ones? And how bad a sin would it be to use the slightly thinner one on the 24V?

If I were to put a 20mm instead of a 21mm bar, would there really be any noticeable difference? Otherwise the cossie has the same suspension as all the others.

Not sure if the cossie has a 1mm bigger diameter bar than the rest of the range (seems a bit strange that it's only 1mm bigger), but if it does & you were to fit the smaller bar, then you'd obviously need to fit the smaller bushes & possibly the bush clamps may be a different size as well  :)

The bushes and clamps are the same, I believe they adjust when you install them (the bushes are open in one end I believe). New bush and clamp goes without saying, just got quoted 8€/pair on bushes and 6€/pair for the clamp from FMD. Around here the 24V is much rarer (or the owners are not interested in breaking them), hence less used parts are available.

Can a "bad" bar cause slightly uneven height on left and right side, when parked on even ground?
