Hi
Does anyone know if there is a relay between the heater fan control and the heater? and where it is?
I have a 97 2.3 with A/C with an intermittent fault, the fan sometimes works and sometimes dosnt and i dont think its the control switch. thanks for any replies.

Thanks for that , but mine dosnt have auto climate control, just A/C which is either on or off.
(2.3 ghia x). If i put the fan switch full on it dosnt work untill i go over a bump and then works untill i switch it off. Then when i turn it on again it wont work- like a sticking relay.

Could be a broken fan motor resister does it work on the other speeds ok ?

No.it dosnt work at all, the only way to start it is to put the switch full on and wait for it to start, after maybe 10 minutes or so, usualy when i go over a bad bump.

Sounds like a heater blower resister fault or bad connection

Its mounted in top center of the heater box under the bonet secured by 2 crosshead screws first check all the wires are conected properly then remove it the back of it will look like springs but this is the resister wire check it hasnt broken

The problem may be with the Thermal Fuse (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/acthermalfuse.htm). ;)

i have checked the thermal fuse and resistors and they are ok. there is 12 v being switched through to that point so the fault must be in the motor. thanks for the help.

If that is the case try spraying the motor contacts with WD40 or similar. Once the thermal fuse is out you can just about contort yourself enough to see inside the casing. Some members have had success with this and there is a 'mod' to adjust the brushes if the WD40 doesn't work but it involves the removal of the outer casing. ;) Will find the link.

Relay 24 in the passenger side (Auxillary} fusebox is listed as Aircon.

UPDATE.
i sprayed half a tin of servisol contact and switch cleaner into the top of the heater unit via the hole at the top after removeing the resistor panel, also there is a spring loaded lever that can just be reached- i moved this up and down 20 or so times, and the fan is spinning again!
just as a matter of interest , we have owned our scorpio estate from new - october 97-and have just gone past 200,000 miles, whats the highest milage scorpio on the site?
reading all the problems people have, we have been very lucky , apart from normal service items the only problems we have had is the engine wiring loom and a cracked thermostat housing. its just starting to use oil.

Good to hear that. I have just found another post I was looking for by Tompion Here (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Advice;action=display;num=1246063400;start=10#10) with some great advice and photo's. May come in useful !!. The spring you could just feel is shown in the pictures. ;D

If it’s the copper coloured bit that looks like a spring, it’s part of the wiring to the brush - I assume as it’s wound round a carbon rod it’s a suppressor – but only guessing ;D but pulling it will move the brush.
Don't pull too hard if the actual spring comes off I doubt you'll get it back without taking the motor out.
