Title: What's missing
Post by wolfblood on Aug 25th, 2009, 2:14pm
Hi everyone and thanks for the advice on the problems with the top hose (no innuendo intended)

While I had the cover off the octopus on my 24v while fitting a new hose I noticed the following:

It looks like there should be a bolt holding something on as there is a threaded hole and is located at the front left of the engine.

Does anyone have any idea what should be there?

Cheers

Dean

Thanks for the speedy reply.
This could explain an old problem I have noticed.
It has aircon which does blow cold but cannot be turned up past 2 as it vibrates (it's a ghia so doesn't have climate control).  Thought it was something lose somewhere and as I prefer to have windows open I don't use it anyway.

I take it getting and fitting a tensioner would be a good idea to prevent damage to the system from passengers and their inability to keep hands to themselves ::)

does the compressor clutch work when the system is on??

looks like someones either had a broken tensioner pulley or found a belt that fitted and removed it :)

Sorry to ask but how would I test the compressor clutch?

Just wondering if it could have been removed to prevent further damage (remember reading that a seized AC can cause the engine to seize too) at some point and the previous owner failed to tell me.

P.S just realised the vibration  felt when fan is turned on full occurs whether AC is on or not so expect this to be something else...... :-/

the compressor pulley will freewheel with the belt all the time when the engine is running, the centre of the pulley will be still when the compressor isnt working.

the compressor only works when called upon by the AC system, when its working the hydraulic clutch will engage and turn the centre part of the pulley

its an electronic clutch on the A/C compressor which engages when the A/C is switched on
