Title: Tow bar & the Scorpio
Post by lesterlad on Sep 2nd, 2009, 9:59pm
Just a bit of advice for all you Scorpio owners that have tow bars fitted.

This is something I didn't know until today.

On 27th April 2009 towbars and their
attachment to the vehicle became part of the MOT test.

Quote:
No covers or panels will be removed to facilitate the inspection of any components, including tow ball covers.
Components hidden behind bumper bars for instance, will be tested as far as is practicable.
However, it may be necessary to inspect some components from inside the luggage compartment, including lifting of loose fitting mats or carpet, that's why we need to look in the boot - if the boot is full then we must decline to test the vehicle.

The attachments to the chassis and boot floor now carry the same rules as the suspension, steering, brakes and seat belts with regard to security and corrosion - so any rust holes within 30cm (or 12") of any towbar mounting are failable,..

they also have to inspect the tow ball but are not allowed to remove the tow ball cover if one is fitted !!!!!
