Title: Need some advice on some rims!
Post by rayblack on Sep 8th, 2009, 8:32pm
Hi guys!

I would be happy if I could get some advice on rims. I would like them to be any where from 16" to 18".
I like the rims to be nice looking but not "(fast and the furious)" looking if you understand. }{

All ideas are welcome:)

Ok sounds great. What kind of tyre dimentions do you guys use? Got any pictures or links for these kind of rims?

Sorry about the spelling the primeminister of Norway has cut our English-schooling budget :P

THANKS

Hi Ray:)

I'd try this lot

www.alloywheels.com

They sell sets of 18" alloys from just £ 440  a set including tyres (although for the scorpio,  you'll be better off buying your own as they dont put quite the right size on their package deals  IMO)

Best tyre size (especially taking in mind the invariable "10%" overread built into the scorp speedo) is 235/40/18 - available for £45 each delivered on a "V" rating.

Do have to admit tho - the Ultima alloys are gorgeous  :)- shame they only come in 16"....

your decision, :)

I think they would look good on some 17 year olds Saxo though, not on a Scorpio

I have "4-spoke turbo" rims. They look pretty good imo

only 16" though..

Yep  same. Those rims where as optional choose in Scorpio (afaik).   Also seen them as original wheels on mk2 Mondeo ST24.
But tire (195/45) on those is maybe too low profile for Scorpio

hi there

if going for 15 inch rims, use the original scorpio size of 195x65x15.

or 205/65R15 (mine has those as winter tires, and as only size printed on the registration papers). They give slightly better load index as well.

Are these the right size for 12 valve Scorpio estate Please? i have 225-50-16 on 12 spokes, Dunlop Sport ride a bit on the hard side, but i need to change two on the front, Anyone recomend a good size and tyre please, sorry to hi-jack the thread, it's nice to see some different rims. but i must say i prefer the 12 spoke originals, TBO. Cheers BOB

225/50R16 is the factory size for 12-spoke. I have Continental Sportcontact 2 front, and season new Kumho KU31 rear. KU31 is a very good and also economical option. Planning to put KU31 front as well aftr the old ones wear out. The tires before were some really horrible BF Goodrich G-profiler, when they were front the car behaved really oddly, and were replaced pretty quickly.

hi there

i like those KUMHO KU31 as well.

the issue with the 16 inch wheel/tyre is the sidewall of the tyre. some tyres are really hard which is giving you the harsh ride. the harder the sidewall, the better the responses are. softer sidewall give a less precise feeling, but are more comfortable.
