Title: Expansion tank cap Post by a900one on Sep 26th, 2009, 2:11pm What pressure should the cap be, eg 12psi blow off , mine is only releasing pressure at 18.5 psi :o. Is this the reason my radiator is leaking / ballooned. |

Title: Re: Expansion tank cap Post by Snoopy on Sep 26th, 2009, 8:25pm I think THIS (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/manual/cooling/PressTest.pdf) will give you the information you require 120kPA equates to 17.4 lbs pSq In the conversion is .145kPA. |

Title: Re: Expansion tank cap Post by a900one on Sep 26th, 2009, 10:16pm Thanks snoopy I saw that but did not know what it was in p s i. The granada v6 had a cap set at 0.8- 1.0 bar so 17.4 seems high, I know thats what Ford set it at but what will that put the boiling point up to, I think 1 bar puts it up to app 110o/c. |

Title: Re: Expansion tank cap Post by Snoopy on Sep 27th, 2009, 8:04am I bar is 15 lbsp sq in from what i remember so that is about the same . As you correctly state puts the BP up to around 110c which is why you have to be Very careful when opening a HOT car filler cap as it can boil vigourously with the sudden reduction of pressure Actually 1 bar is 14.5037738 |

Title: Re: Expansion tank cap Post by a900one on Sep 28th, 2009, 6:29pm Just been in to Vospers and its the same cap for both. The top of my rad had ballooned one of the flat tubes had gone into a round tube and had broken the top bar :o. Now its possible that the cap had stuck shut as I had to put the pressure up past 25psi to get it to open. |
