Title: I bought a new keyfob...no worky either
Post by Comfortzone on Oct 1st, 2009, 11:29pm
:(   i tried the reprogramming steps again and im still getting the beep after the 4th turn then another beep when turning key back.....no more than that though...its hard to tell if the remote is alive though as there is no flashing light. Is there something on the car that could be wrong, maybe a fuse blown or something (wishful thinking perhaps) :)

Have you checked the batteries in the remote? I had some trouble programming two remotes on my last scorpio but got there in the end. Patience is required . ( Seldom found in women and never in men ) so I am led to believe. Worth cleaning all the contacts inside with a pencil eraser ( rubber) as well.

Comfortzone.
Have you got 2 x CR2016 batteries in the fob, they need 6 volts to work efficiently.

Are you doing it the way the hand book say's or the way the scorpio site say's ...http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/remote.htm . The hand book way doesn't work.
Or after you have cleaned the contacts and if it still don't work you could try painting a little metalic paint on the rubber buttons, ( on the inside ) so it can make a connection on the contacts......

Afraid they can, I purchased 2 and followed the advice of members on here before resigning them to the bin as duff ones,  I finally got a 3rd one that worked.

If you are getting the confirmation " beep " then the problem I think you wil find is with the remote . DO all as advised clean and double check. It can be a very frustrating thing trying to programme tyhe remotes. I well remember having to spend several goes at getting mine to work on more that one occasion.

Good Luck.

If you don't have any metal paint, I cut out and glued foil from a mince pie tray (was christmas) on to the rubber's.
Worked a treat and I got fed. Double result!

yap. just cut it to very little pieces and glue them to rubber parts.

worked here also. But I found that rubber didn't hold foils very long time there. I then did put electrical "paint" there.. works again.

Hate to through a spanner in the works but I had the same problem. Sometimes the remote would work, sometimes the batteries lasted a day etc.etc.etc.  I finally used just one battery ... a 2032 .... d**n thing has worked ever since. And that was last year.!!
Cheers

2032 batteries can be bought in any supermarket.

I tried 2032.. does not work. Voltage is half of two 2016's.

Most (but not all) lithium coin cells are 3 volts, the reason you have 2 cr2016's is they work in series to give 6 volts.
Btw, for those that don't know, the reason it's called a CR/DL2016 is because it's 20mm diameter and 1.6mm thick. And of course a CR/DL2032 is 3.2mm thick etc.

Quite correct Tekno ! 2032 may give a result sometimes, but 6 volts are required for full output, hence 2x2016.
If you look on eBay they are available at a fraction of the price charged by retail stores.

Try wilko's. Dead cheap there. Still sold in two's.  Not sure about the 6volt bit. I was once told by a Ford mechanic that even though there are two 3 volt batteries the fob still only operates at three volts??!! As I'm no mechanic I haven't a clue. All I know is mine works a treat. I'm also sure that somewhere on this site someone else recommended this ??

The mechanic was wrong :)

There are however some fobs that only used a single 3 volt cell.

Connecting batteries in series i.e. + to - the voltage is added up but the amps stay the same. Connecting batteries in parallel i.e. + to + and - to - the voltage stays the same but you get more amps.........
