hi all, my car is a 2.3 ,its currently crunching into 2nd and occasionaly into 3rd especially when cold, i have a spare diesel gearbox , can this be swapped and will the vss have to come with it? Or is there anything i can do to the current gear box in the 2.3, cheers,phil.

AFAIK diesel box is not a straight swap, but just get a good gearbox man to change the bronze synchro rings for you.

Do it now rather than later cos otherwise it will damage the dogs on the hubs and gears and make it a much dearer job. ;)

Different bellhousings so they would have to be swapped over.

VSS will be the same but I would ASSUME the sprocket in the box will need swapped as the 2.3 and the diesel have different diff ratios although I dont know what number of teeth they have/should have (Diesel manual has 22)

The toothed sprocket may be able to be removed through the VSS opening but again i'm not sure how its attached.

The diesel box will have a better top gear ratio though for cruising

Diesel boxes are worth money as they are used in 24v manual conversions, i'd sell it and buy another manual 16v box ;)

BOB = Scorpio II 24V Cosworth engine
