Title: 24v cosworth cuts out, now no spark.
Post by a900one on Oct 15th, 2009, 7:53pm
After a 30 mile run, with 4 stops, when I put my foot down the rev counter started to drop and the car started to cut out. I went about another mile and it stopped all together it started again but only went about 10 yards before cutting out again.
The RAC man thinks its the crank position sensor, could be, as there is no spark and the injectors are cut off when you try to start it after its just stopped.  Whats the thoughts on here.   After leaving it to cool it drove about a quarter of a mile before cutting out again.

Could it be the idle air control valve..........

It starts and idles fine but rev it to 3000 rpm and it starts to miss and the rev counter starts to drop to 0. Now we did look in the fuse box by the battery and there seems to be some brown dust near one large fuse, I will have a better look tomorrow.

If it was a faulty crank position sensor then the car would start at all.

Possibly a badly decayed engine wiring loom  :-/....... :)

When its cut out and wont restart the pats light comes on when you try and crank it.  I thought the facelifts did not suffer the bad wiring looms? , having said that there is a crack in a wire on the multiplug to the coil pack.

Disconnected the battery this morning and cleaned around 80amp fuse in fuse box. Tested cut out switch in boot, all ok, reconnected battery now no spark and wont even try to start. Used red key to make sure not problem with other keys, still nothing. ???  Went to clean crank sensor and the plug was not clipped on, it was only part way on, cleaned replace plug and all seems to be well untill the next fault.
