Title: temperature gauge problem
Post by Tekno on Oct 18th, 2009, 5:18pm
Hello

My temp gauge usually doesn't raise at all. Nothing happens on needle. I have changed thermostat, a coolant temperature sensor (is there 2 of them, for ecu and gauge? or just 1?) , and opened the instrument panel (soldering and contacts etc was in good condition) Cooling fluid level is sufficient and cabin heater works properly. There comes warm easily (after I did put the new heater matrix).
When holding trip meter button there is ENG TEMP which is is 255, doesn't that mean VERY cold, below -0c or so (255 is minimum value)?
When temp gauge sometimes works, it sits on middle of normal temp area and ENG TEMP values is under 100 (I dont remember clearly but something like that) Will check it again...
I wonder if the heat sensor wiring has connectors somewhere in the chain over there? other than at the probe and instrument end? ..
Scorp is -98, 2.3 litre

Tekno, do you have access to ODB? A failed sensor should raise a DTC, atleast when the injection temp sensor was broken on mine, there was some code indicating suspicious levels reported.

hi there

you need to change the left hand sensor on the manifold (grey one).

just be careful of how much you screw the new one in by. it DOESN'T screw all the way back in. you should be able to see some of the screw thread.

Went to look at the above link and got this ;

Proxy Error
The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.

The proxy server could not handle the request GET /photos/album/4/2.3_plastic_manifold.

Reason: Could not connect to remote machine: Connection timed out

yep, it was that which I replaced with new one

The grey one is the ECT for the ECU temp reading. The black sensor on the right is the temp guage sensor & this is the one that needs to be changed  :)

okay. Is there documents how to measure it?

Tekno.
Pull the black plug off, bridge the contacts with a piece of wire and switch the ignition on,if the gauge goes to the top, replace the sensor. If it doesn't move there may be a loom fault.

hi there

when my one was playing up (dash gauge moving about), i changed the grey one and that solved it.

hi there

it's on my multiply site, but you might need to be a member to see it.

rodders, you are a member so you should be able to see it.

Hi there, the temp guage sender is defo the black one on the right, directly below the matrix outlet  ;)..... :)

what is FINIS of that temp gauge sender?

anyone know price?

I'm not sure of the finis code, but the part number is 91AB10884AA & costs about £16 from Ford  :)
