Hello

I was home early this afternoon and decided to take a wee look at my spark plugs. Glad I did! The wires that go between the injector plastic rail to the coil packs were absolutely shot! They had gone all hard, and just snapped like twigs when I took them off the coil packs. I was lucky to have the wiring from the aforementioned 2.0 litre spare engine. It also looked like it could have been an old problem, because instead of the thick purple wire that comes out of the plastic rail then splits into two slightly thinner purple, and purple/black, someone had frigged another purple wire from the second pack. This meant that the short length to the nearest pack was taking a double load, and perhaps over-heating. I also noticed that the wiring pack on the 2.0 litre spare engine was all heat-shrink wrapped, whereas mine was just taped with cloth tape in some places, and had those plastic concertina covers over the wires. Still I cut the wires back to good flexi stuff, and wet-jointed the spare set on, all in the pouring rain! Got a couple of soldering iron burns on my fingers whilst joining, you always seem to need three hands! Still never got to look at the plugs, car seems to be running really well, a quick blast up to 120mph, aye, 120 on the clock! I was so surprised it wasn't running like a dog with the state of the wires!? :o

The Merc wafts one along at a sedate 70mph to the sound of the delightful silence one comes to expect.

Mind you for an oil burner it does shift somewhat!! after all it has the same BHP as the Cossie did
